6121-1959 vs. 6128t
hello all! I'm new here!
Planning on picking up a Gretsch in the next month or so.
Other than color and price, are there any real differences between the 6128T and the 6121-1959? I'm trying to decide between the two. I'm not so into the gold hardware and orange color of the 59, but what I'm most concerned about is playability and sound.
I know that they both have the HS Filtertrons which I want.
Just wondering if the 59 is made with better parts because it's priced more.
And does the 59 have a slightly fatter neck than the 6128T?
Any info from people who have played both would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Aram

I prefer the black jets over the orange. Orange belongs on the 6120s IMHO
I say get a 6120 instead

That's what I was thinking too. I played a 1959 and it was a great guitar, but I haven't had a chance to play the 6128t, so I want to make sure that they're both in the same calibre.
Basically, if I was blindfolded, and both were out in my hands, would I like them both equally?

It's kind of comparing apples to oranges. They are on the same level in terms of quality of Gretsch products, as in both Pro line, but you're comparing a hollow body to a semi-hollow/solid body.
They're two different guitars that are going to sound different thru the same amp.
If you're in the market for both body styles, then I guess it's up to you. But if you really want a hollowbody, or vice versa, then the choice is simple, right?

Gee, don't you just hate it when people post in threads when they don't know one neck from another.
The 6121 is a jet, not a hollow body gretsch. So in answer to the original question the two guitars should be pretty even in a blind test. There may well be slight differences but the 6128 will be every bit as high quality as it's orange cousin.

OOPS! I saw the post from JohnnySlapback and must have mistaken the original post for saying 6120 as well.
My bad!

Thanks for the responses! I think I'm going to go with the 6128t. It's cheaper and less flashy. The only other difference I found was that the 59 has a zero fret.

Good choice. I've been debating multiple Jets for a couple months and finally decided on the DSV.
What it breaks down to is that it has all the features I want and its a matter of saving a few more bucks to get what I want.
I wish the features I wanted fell into a cheaper level of Jet.
But it boils down to if you get what you want for a reasonable price then you'll be happy.
This is my "holy grail" purchase as it seems yours is. Best get it right the first time.

Yeah, I tried a dsv and it's great, but I need quiet pickups, and they seemed a bit noisier so I'm going to go with the filtertrons. Someday I'll have both.
