Default The LTV Transformation...

My go-to Gretsch is the G6122-1959 Hall Of Fame. For what I do (Chet type stuff) it's hands down, the BEST ! Period...for other styles as well I'm sure.

My 2nd fave is the G6120LTV. It was heavenly as it was, but I wanted to try to replicate or get similar tone and feel from the LTV as on the HOF... or at least, as near as possible.

So, just got the LTV back today from my guitar tech, who did an outstanding job BTW (Eric Chaz in Van Nuys, CA)

Installed TV Jones SuperTron in the neck, Classic Plus (black cover) in the bridge, Chet Wire Arm Bigsby, and refretted with medium jumbo frets (LTV has the vintage, thin wire).

In a word... AWESOME ! This comes really close to the HOF feel and sound which is what I was hoping would happen. Sometimes I just need to play the Chet stuff on the short scale guitar, and now the switch is really nice. Same basic tone, neck feels better with the beefier frets, Chet arm... it's NICE !

What are you going to do to the DE? Just jumbo frets, or more changes?

Just the frets. Already has a Chet arm and doesn't need anything else. Sounds awesome with the stock Dynas.

And the transformation is now completed. Gretsch B6G Bigsby and gold Chet Wire arm installed. TRU-ARC Brass bridge on both.

...and the Chet playin' 1 - 2 punch..

Looking really good, Mitch.
I'd like to hear the SuperTron on that guitar.
Were the old frets worn down or did you just feel uncomfortable with them?
I still have to get used to the vintage size wire on my Jet.

How much does a re-fretting usually cost?

Great conversion Mitch. The Supertron, Classic Plus combo from the 6122-1959 is hard to beat. Likewise, the fret size is perfect. I've also given thought to putting the same pickups on a 16" Gretsch. In my case it's to reduce weight.

Thanks guys ! I really, really like how she came out.

RineO, the LTV is an '06 and had pretty good fret wear, so it needed a fret dress at least. I decided to just refret with the slightly larger wire, which feels better to me.

My tech charges $220 for refret and set up. YMMV

That's a very reasonable price.
