Idea for Custom Shop Gretsch
Nothing will be happening fast but . . . I may consider a C.S. Gretsch if the price is on the ground. How's this?
A 6120 DC with no mute, which allows the bridge pickup to be placed closer to the bridge. This would, in theory, give better definition to the lower strings which is the only shortcoming of my DC. By having no mute the access panel and backpad could be eliminated which I wouldn't miss at all. The final touch would be to have it be flame maple with the same burgundy color as a G6122-1959.
Any thoughts?

I have a 6120 Country Classic II in that color with no mutes, pads, or
access panel. I have put the regular Country Gentleman plate on the head.

I just got the Custom Shop worksheet from Gretsch and the 6120 DC is not even on there.

Well I never play it but it was called a Country Classic and has no mutes.

The 6120 DC is a 16" double cutaway with parallel bracing. As I understand it the Country Classic or the 6122 II are 17" and have waffle bracing.

Lord, Synchro I didn't even know there was waffle bracing. Buy if there was an Eggo in it I would have eaten it by now. How do you tell when the sound holes are painted on?
I sure appreciate the uncommon expertise on this forum, but my area is only in collecting.
I don't modify them more than a Bigsby but I do lobe to play. Thanks for helping find out what Inever heard of !

With closed soundholes about all you can do is remove a pickup and take a gander inside.

Actually found an article that says my 6122-59 reproduction of Chets guitar all have waffle bracing and those are my favorites.

That's the way I understand it. My 6122-1959 is an amazing guitar and, although I haven't checked, it has the weight, sustain characteristics and feedback resistance that would lead me to believe it is indeed waffle braced. I don't plan any mods to this one, it's already modified . . . to Chet's liking.
The 6120 DC is also a pretty decent guitar and capable of delivering a decent Chet sound. It's my first choice most of the time, light, easy on the shoulder, versatile and plays like greased lightning. The only thing I don't like is the sound of the bridge pickup which is about an inch up from the bridge. With just a half inch difference in its position I suspect that the bridge pickup would be much better defined and more crisp sounding. Still, I wouldn't want to not have a 6120 DC. They are sort of a unique mini Country Gent and perfect for finger-style.

My only idea for Custom Shop Gretsch is a Hot Rod Taxi Yellow Malcolm Jet with the bridge pickup and the vol pot only!

if you wanna have a custom shop gretsch built, i would suggest getting something a little less... standard. nobody would look at it and think "that's a one of a kind guitar". ya know what i mean?

Gretsch doesn't even list the 6120 DC as available from the Custom Shop. Your choices are Falcons, 6120s or Duo Jets.
I don't want anything particularly unusual anyhow. I've owned custom guitars for decades and none of them was all that unusual but all of them had the features I wanted and only those features. My first custom guitar had dot inlays, nickel hardware and zero frills. My Warwick bass requires some knowledge of the line before you would even suspect that it's custom.
