Honey Don't for me. It took a while to catch on that it wasn't an original song. Surprised no one has mentioned James Burton. In the '50s his solos on Ricky Nelson's songs were prome rockabilly stuff. In my mind Scotty Moore and James are neck and neck. Than Carl Perkins and Sezter who brought it all back again.

Honorable mention to Robbie Robertson-His solo on Ronnie Hawkins version of "Who Do You Love" is pretty classic. Same with The Bands "Mystery Train"...

Hey All,

I've always been a fan of the great rockabilly hall of famer - Alvis Edgar Owens, Jr.

My father was a rock 'n roll DJ on WEED radio in Rocky Mount NC in the 1950s. He gave me this 45 record when I was a kid and I have never been the same since. So, the answer is:

Eddie Cochran - C'mon Everybody

First rockabilly song was Blues Suede Shoes
I have lots of favorites. I really like to play Sun songs, like Mystery Train, My Baby Left Me, but I love fast rockabilly, neo-rockabilly.
My favorite players are Setzer and Gatton

Hey All,

Here is another Rockabilly Hall of Famer...

I think with a bit of work I could do the harp on this one - guitar I'd be lost.

It does interest me that some of the great - what we typically think of as country - stars that started out in the early to mid fifties actually started out as rockabilly. Eventually they drifted on into the kind of music we typically think of them doing.

I have been listening to a lot of rockabilly lately and really like it - I always have just never payed it much real attention - it is basically what I want to become capable of playing. I was also amazed to find out that Europe perhaps in particular Scandinavia is and has been such a hotbed of rockabilly. For example some of the youtubes amaze me to hear everything spoken in say swedish and then sing rockabilly in english and then continue on in swedish. Eastern Europe is also really big on it. Why is europe so big on rockabilly?

First Rockabilly song I learned would be twenty flight rock by my man Eddie Cochran. I've got way to many favorite songs, between Scotty Moore on mystery train, Eddie Cochran had me with strollin guitar , His Majesty Mr. Setzer, when I seen him do sleepwalk it was a religious experience! even gene Vincent and his blue caps. But if I had to pick a favorite palyer,, I'd say its a toss up between Eddie Cochran and Brian Setzer. At least those are my inspirational Rockabilly guys.

Great post by the way!!

Yep, 20 flight rock by cochran was my first real rockabilly love. It's because it was all the things about rockabilly that I love: fun, quirky, fast, jammin, gretschin, etc. And his "Hallelujah I love her so" was such a rockin take on more of a classic. I'm making a backing track for that one now.

Seems to me that Mystery Train and 20 Flight Rock are the most common first time songs

Twenty Flight rock was the first rockabilly song i learned. Big time Eddie fan. My favorite song to play is probably Double Talking baby. And hands down theres no comparison to Brian Setzer. Hes my favorite all time guitarist, period.

You've missed the Hillbilly Hellcats off of that list. They are brilliant. In fact, Chuck Hughes (singer, songwriter, guitarist) comes on here now and again.
