Experimenting with DIY bridge...thoughts?
Here is what I have in mind.
I have hollow aluminum tube material, 1/2" OD, that I have bent to a 12" radius and want to turn it into a rocking bar bridge. I will post pics as I progress. I wonder how a light mass hollow bridge will affect the tone? Stay tuned the next few weeks.
How about copper water pipe...hmmm?

Congrats on starting the project. I am always impressed with people that can do! I am sure it will work out.

Sounds like it will work to me. Is the wall thickness of the aluminum enough to allow you to file string slots without filing through?

I'm interested to see how it turns out. Be sure to keep up up to date, and post pics.

Re: string grooves. The wall thickness is close to 3/32. Instead of grooves I plan shallow 'v' grooves to locate strings on bridge. Just waiting for the ebony base to arrive.

Hollow..that may sound way too tinny (bright), especially for a hollow-body guitar. I have a solid aluminum Tru-Arc and I think it's just right, based on my aluminum AB-1 Les Paul experience. Maybe that's what yer after?
Not something I'd try, but to each his own.

A couple experiments have taught me that string slots are absolutely OPTIONAL. It could be that I don't bang very hard, but I just don't have problems with strings moving around.
