D'Addario EXL-115s
I've recently put D'Addario Chromes (flatwound 12s) on my Jazz guitar and love them. I'm thinking of trying flat wound 11s on my 5120.

Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys. Have occasionaly tried other kinds though not related to disatisfaction with the EBs. Didn't like for one reason or another and always come back to the mean green x 30+ years. Must mean something. Lighter slinkys tend to just cause blood stains and tuning issues (although this may be due to many years of overly enthusiatic and hamfisted bass playing).
I may change my mind if I ever really buy me a Gretsch... but I may not.

I've tried them all but after I tried some Thomastik flat-wounds I quit looking.

How strange, not one posting in favour of RotoSound strings.
Have used them for years and find them excellent ,otherwise it's D'Adarrios.
May try A set of Gibson BriteWires having read good things about them here at G-T

Rotosounds are great. Love the pure nickel, but they've got the bright end covered too.
DR has been having some quality control issues re uniformity in gauge and strings being able to hold intonation. I experienced it first hand very odd. Strings would be really finicky to intonate then would just fall out. Over and over again. Haven't had the problem since switching to the roto's.
Something to due with hex core wrapping vs round core. It's well documented.
Can't say enough good about rotosound.

D'Addario 10's. basic .010-.046. But ive also started to really like the SIT strings. Much cheaper and they really stay in tune great.

I'm really torn about strings after my Anni came with flatwounds on. I'd never tried them, never tried a wound G either...and I love them.
The thing is, I miss sliding the pick up the strings. I'm all for gratuitous showmanship that involves no skill whatsoever.
How do I reconcile these two things?
Also, it seems like the e and B are worn out well before the others. Do any of you just change out them out and leave the wounds on longer?

I tried flat wounds, but hated the dead sound from the bass stings, and that woody 'thwack' tone they delivered.
I tried round wounds. didn't likem them either

You can buy plain strings in bulk for around 60 cents each so changing just the upper strings is feasible and cost effective.

I am a DR Blues Fan myself. I use them on everything, usually in a 10 guage. 12's on my SG, which is set up for slide.
I had tried flatwounds a year or so ago once... on a Strat. It just didn't sound right.
Last night I tried them on my 5127. It actually works pretty well. The ones I tried were the D'addario Chromes in 12. That G is a bit heavy for all the bends I do. But, I'll try them out for a few weeks and see how I like them. I am tempted to order some Thomastik flatwounds. Everybody seems to rave about them.

I like Tomasiks (sp?) but for the price difference D'Addario 10-52s work just fine!

I like them both, Thomastiks and Chromes but I like the feel of the Chromes better.
