Double Jet Question
Hey guys, I'm new here so please excuse any ignorance. I just got my first Gretsch and I am hoping to get some input from some of ya'll! The dude called it a Double Jet Firebird however I HIGHLY doubt thats what it really is, I got it in a trade deal so I am not really sure what it's worth but moreover, I am looking to add a Pickguard and Bigsby (or whatever tremolo is recommended)! I was hoping ya'll could give me some pointers in the right direction of where to start?
I also apologize for the poor quality of picture
Thanks

got any more pictures what does it say on the headstock? does it say synchromatic? my first thoughts were that it was a fake due to the weird tailpiece but it could be a synchromatic double jet thats had some modifications like the tailpiece and some extra switches

its a gretsch, its totally modded tho. The bridge looks like the wrap-around, w/ some aftermarket tail-piece. The previous owner probably thought that the G style tail was taking his sustain.
I would put a B5/B50 tremolo on it, and get a different bridge. Possibly convert it to a floating bridge setup as well, but I wouldn't worry about that as much as getting a new bridge.

Yep, it's definitely a Double Jet. And because it's red, I guess you could call it a Firebird. It's a pretty sharp looking guitar actually. If I were you, I would:
-change the pickups (either real Filtertrons or GFS Retrotrons)
-change the bridge (a Compton Compensated Bridge)
-change the tailpiece (a Bigbsy B3C)
But you should think about how much more money you want to put into this guitar. It's probably worth about $300 and the mods I've listed above are probably about $250-275.
The mods you make won't raise the value of the guitar tremendously; however, there are definitely people out there who are looking for a red Jet that's cheaper than the pro-line models. I'm one.

im pretty satisfied with the tone, i just got the guitar today and i set the intonation (im no expert tho) but on the G-string the 2nd and 14th frets are WAY sharp but everything else is fine! Any ideas?
I do want to change the tailpiece FOR SURE and if this bridge keeps giving me problems than itll go too!

I like that a lot! I'm never a red guitar guy, so, that's saying something.... Not sure what....
