G6121-1955 or G6128TCG Duo Jet
OK so I was thinking of getting a Caddy Green Duo Jet and then the other day I went into a store that had a G6121-1955 Chet Atkins that was hideously tacky (but I loved it). I haven't had the chance to look at the Duo Jet yet.
So the question is to anyone that has seen/played both...
What are the differences aside from the appearance? Thoughts?

I have a 2005 G6121W which is from a period when the line was going through some transition so it's not like a typical 6121W but very much like a G6121-1955 but without the leather. Cowboy motifs, plain arrow knobs, stock Bigsby, Dynasonics, etc.
Compared to my Firebird Jet, it's a little lighter (6.8 lbs as opposed to 7.3 lbs for the Firebird). It had (mine no longer has it) a Bigsby bridge as opposed to a Synchrosonic bridge on the Firebird. The Synchrosonic is all right but does not match the fretboard radius of the Firebird so well so I get some squeaks with it. The Firebird is a Dyna Gakki build (a JD serial number) so the neck profile is slightly different than the Terada made Roundup (JT serial number). It's a little bit fatter and I, personally, don't like it as much (the Firebird neck, I mean).
In my experience, Jets (and a G6121 is still a Jet, just fancier) with similar pickups are going sound about the same. The G6121-1955 will probably be more expensive than any other Jet (because of the leather, I think).
My Roundup is a great guitar and my go to instrument.

Hi all, i just got a 2006 G6121-1955 yesterday, it's a 2006 model but brand new.
I was surprised how light this guitar is.
Mine has the bigsby bridge also, but unusualy the gold bigsby has a black inner section where the writing is?.
I also took a look at the caddy green model but favoured the 'over the top' western bits on the 1955.
They're both lovely guitars though!
all the best, mark.

I would go with a Jet if you have the other styles. I am trying to get rid of a brand new Epiphone LP custom for an Electromatic Jet. They are sprout up all over CL and I want an all Gretsch family.
Go with the Jet!

That's a fine Roundup, I have the same, only a 2004 model. It sounds the same as the G6128TCG, that why I'm selling my Caddy Green.

OK all, I've finally come to grips with selling my strat to fund my a new Gretsch and it will soon be out the door. The time is drawing near and it's down between the G6121-1955 and a G6120DSW. I already have a 5122 that I modded with TVJones and Tru-Arc that I love, so I'm having a tough time deciding between another hollow body with the dynasonics or the 6121-1955.
Thoughts?

That's a swaaaaawweeeeet looking jet, but I'm between the 6121-1955 and the 6120DSW (wanting dynasonics). Noticed you said this one hasn't left the case since you got the DSW. Love to hear your thoughts on the DSW vs the jet.
