Randy Bachman Collection
Hi Friends!
I expect you know that Randy Bachman had a collection of over 350 Gretsches.
Apparently, Fred Gretsch borrowed a bunch of them to measure after all
the original plans were destroyed in the fire.
Anyway, Randy couldn't play 350 guitars at once, so they made a deal and the collection is now at the Gretsch Museum in Savanah, Georgia.
Has anybody seen it?
Sounds like a shrine that all true Gretschers should visit!

I went to the Gretsch store in Savannah around the time I'm assuming this was still being worked out (in between the corporate office and the actual shop they had taped up the windows so no one could see in) and if it's true, I'd be up for another trip down there. It isn't too far from my house.

Jukebox it isn't THAT close. I'd need to come up with a reason to go and bring the wife and child... It's not happening soon.

Hello!
The news article I read said the deal was done in June 2008. Not sure how long it takes to set up or where they'd put a display like that.
From what little I know, Savanah looks like a beautiful town, as unique and interesting as New Orleans, so a trip even without Gretsches would likely be a real pleasure.
My wife is the one who told me about the collection. She heard Randy Bachman talking about it on the radio. I Googled and found a news article from some paper in British Columbia (Bachman lives there, now).
Funny that Gretsch doesn't mention anything about it on their site. It may be that they aren't set up and ready for the public.
Some of you guys seem well connected in the music biz, maybe you can ask Fred Gretsch for a private tour ...
My wife loves New Orleans so there's a chance I can get her to go to Savanah. US travel is a bit costly for us with the 80 cent Canuckabuck, so that's a factor.

I like Savannah. It's a nice town. Paula Dean of Food Network fame has a resturant really close to the famous riverwalk (where you can buy all sorts of delicious candy, touristy stuff, any cookbook Paula Dean's written and those statues from Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil).
Hilton Head Island is pretty close to Savannah though and I'd choose to stay there for the night. That place is VERY cool.

Hi Pappy!
I didn't want to mention that flick, but it's where I got my first look at Savanah and got interested in the town.

I haven't seen it, but I'm open to just about anything. Savannah and its surrounding area (on the way to Hilton Head you drive through some pretty "South" looking stuff) is very "South" looking. Huge trees, lush green, spanish moss hanging down, that kind of stuff.
Georgia has some beautiful areas. North Georgia is amazing. There's this TINY town called Ellijay where there's a slew of orchards and there's one in particular that makes their own fried pies and man oh man, they are DELICIOUS.
But as good as Geogia is, the closer you get to the middle of it, the less cool it gets.
