Penguin Armrest?!
I bought a black Penguin from GC in January. It was missing its gold armrest, but had the telltale holes. After several calls to FMIC by GC, they finally found someone that could confirm that the guitar should have had an armrest and located the part number. Eight months later (and ten delays), the part arrived. I brought it home to install it and was disappointed to find that the radius was too broad to fit my Penguin, despite the proper labelling on the bag. The radius was perfect, however, for my Falcon, which shouldn't have an armrest. Any ideas? Anyone know where I can get one that will actually fit?

It might be an idea to get in touch with Blackrider guitars & see what they have, they keep a large inventory of Gretsch parts.

The radius is not intended to fit perfectly as that guitar never had an arm rest specifically made for it. The arm rest is in fact just a Gretsch Banjo piece that was reallocated for use on the Penguins. So, that is why they fit well, but, never perfect. Mine is the same way and it has had its arm rest since day one.
Please see attached photo of "Day One".

Three very sexy chicks in that pic.
Michelle is right, the arm rest on my Pengy does not act as a metal binding. Except for the screw points, it has about ⅛" or so of clearance. Check out the space here:

I'd be deleriously happy if it was only 1/8" but in my case it is a full 3/4" at both ends and the holes don't match either.
On the upside, FMIC is headquartered just down the street so I sent a letter and photos to their new CEO requesting his assistance. We'll see what happens!

Why don't you just run the guitar over there?

LOL. I tried that and they put me on the phone in the lobby with someone in CA. They aren't staffed (or prepared) to handle walk-in questions unfortunately.

The Black Penguin I used to own didn't come with a banjo arm rest at all. It seems to be hit and miss, some years they had them some they didn't. I seem to see more arm rests on the White Penguins than on the Black ones. From the ones I have seen the don't seem to fit perfectly.

I bought a banjo arm-rest and installed it on a Pro Jet project guitar for giggles. It fit perfectly. I guess I was just lucky.

Do you still have the armrest? Would you be interested in selling it?

Hey amigos, my white penguin didn't come with an armrest, and I don't see any holes for one, any one know where I can order one? I always wondered why mine didn't come with one. I am located in so.CA. Would anyone here know??

I found the armrest only in one French eBay store while I was looking for something else. Little expensive if you ask me: €68 = $95 plus shipping I guess.

Check the net for banjo parts, they are a little cheaper than that I believe. Janet Davis is a good site to use.

I bought a gold Gretsch armrest with intentions to put on mt 5570 Elliot Easton, but sold the guitar before I mounted it.
I too was surpised at the "fit", but checked other pics on the web and saw the +1/8" gaps (and little foam pieces to help it float).
If anyone's interested, PM me. I figure $25 shipped to the lower 48.

I am very dissapointed that no one asked how long his penguin's arms are.
