Well, two new Jets and guess which one I like...
So,
As I had said before I stop playing Gretsches for a while after some less than stunning experiences with some pre FMICs that I owned. Then I played a new Jet and was smitten again. So I bought a new 6128T-DSV and it was nice but needed a lot of fiddling to get it "right".
Then, I got this things twin brother which is a '95 and I really love it!

(Not the dude, but the guitar)
Weird, huh?
The DSV feels like a really nice guitar, but the Green Jet feels like a "Great"guitar. Not much weight difference, the Green one is 8.5, vs the DSV at 7.5lbs. Sonically there is no comparison as the green one has TV Jones pickups.
So I guess it goes to show what I know about stuff!

There is nothing wrong with pre fender guitars, some like them better than the post fender. Myself, I like the sound of the pre fender pro jets with the bucker in them vs the mini hums. The down fall is that some of them were used for boat anchors.

Not back to pre FMIC guitars exclusively. Finding this one definitely changed my "No pre-FMIC" rule however. The others that I had previously definitely fell into the boat anchor category.

That was the main problem I think with the pre fender, It was hard finding the lighter ones. I think they were getting light as the merge was happening with fender. So, the later ones wee the lighter ones.

Yup got it from Billy. Supposedly there are only 2 of them out there. And the other guy wasn't into letting his go.
I've never been a fan of sparkles, but this one is pretty cool.

Congrats, Farmer. That's quite a Jet to have. Interesting to hear your feelings n the differences in playability, too.
As Jukebox mentioned, I guess I fall into the camp of FMIC era Gretsches. I do own one pre-FMIC and as far as Filters go, I like the FMIC pickups more. The weight thing is a big deal for me. I just recently learned that the weight issue extends beyond a simple date on a calendar. I picked up an '04 Caddy Green Jet that turned out to be from the Dyna Gakki factory. It weighed far more than my Terada models and both were FMIC. So, while I guess one could say that consistency has skyrocketed since Fender took over things and let Gretsch be Gretsch, there will always be exceptions on both sides of the coin.
It would be great if you could post some gratuitous pics of that green baby for us! There certainly is something about green, isn’t there? Every time Kirk got it on with some foxy alien chick, she always had green skin. It would be kinda coo, to have a Caddy Green girlfriend.
You could make a nice necklace out of the Melita give to her.

Jets have become my all-time favorite guitars. Better than LPs, better than Teles, and definitely better than Strats.
I like'em with Dynas and I like 'em with Filters.
They must be heavily chambered, tho.
