Help please. I need to value an '04 Jet
So,
I really like the Jet model Gretsches. And I am going to try and pick one up. Anyway, I found a 2004 Jet. It's Japanese (I guess they all are) and is black with a Bigsby and filtertrons (I think; I know they're not Dynasonics).
It's in the used section of a large music store and they are asking $1,019.00 for it. I could probably get the price down a little if need be. Is this a fair price for the guitar? The shape is good. It has a roller bridge. Still has plastic on the truss rod cover. A few scratches on the back that don't concern me a bit.
Also, would an '04 be FMIC or pre-fender or possibly either?
So, thanks in advance for your help. If you know of a better deal on one of these fine playing guitars, please point me in that direction.

That should be a FMIC instrument. IMO the price is OK if it's in good shape.

nope that's not a bad price, but if you think you can get them down a little bit, that wouldn't hurt your feelings, would it ? I wish I could come across one around here for that price.

It's an FMIC instrument, but it pre-dates the historical re-vamping of the Jet line, which was done around 2005-2006. The earlier FMIC Jets were transitional, and similar to the pre-FMIC Jets, with the wider headstock, and a mixture of non-historically correct features, such as a tone pot circuit with Filtertrons (instead of the correct tone switch circuit), humpblock inlays where there should have been thumbnail inlays, etc.
Most of the differences are only cosmetic. They're still good guitars, and the price you mention is not a bad one at all, especially if you can talk them down another hundred bucks or so.

TP has nailed it, it sounds like a good buy, especially if you can bargain him down just a touch more!
Meanwhile, I'll sling you an invite to our Jet group to help spark that GAS a little more!
