I measure about 1-3/8" from the bigsby to the pickguard on the 6120...

the distance varies a little as the bigsby pivots around. The measure I took was from the butt end, just as the arm passes the bottom of the pickguard, but because of the pickguard's tapered angle/slant, it only gets greater as it pivots toward center. It seems consistent distance when I consider my duo jet and the annie I sold... Feels like the right positioning, for me anyway...
A couple more pics of the point where I measured...

Well, I know the old trick of putting a penny under the spring to both raise it and make sure that it seats properly, but, I've never had to lower one before. So, sorry, but I don't really know.

For me it just feels more comfortable with the pick guards removed from all my archtops. It leaves more room for fingers and bending the Bigsby.
Guitars left to right
old 50's Kay, G3161 Custom pin stripe, 77 Guild X500, 1997 6120 Duane Eddy. The pick guard feels fine on my Nashville G6121 Jet so it stays.

The bigsby handle is of course a matter of preference as to its height. Mine on the 5122 seemed high so I care fully bent it down to where I liked it. Just take it slow and easy. My Corvette seems just right so I did not have to tweak it at all.

When are people going to learn to post the picture rather than a link?

Juke, I don't think we ought to count that one, so everyone, he's only at 8,008, 'cause he's getting really picky and whiny, so just remember it's one less than what Juke's odometer says...
In the diagram you linked, which is included here, it looks like the bigsby arm is supposed to be pretty much parallel to the guitar body. Yours does look to be at something other than parallel, certainly higher than others I have seen...
Keep us posted on what happens with the 7/8" spring.

Looking at "new bigsby 2" picture, the spring looks like it's not seated properly. You shouldn't be able to see the white washer hanging down like that.
