Default Simce there are no gretsch's withP90's, what else can i so

Am in the market for a P90 equipped guitar. I have saved about two thirds of the cost of a 50th anniversary Sg Which I have played. I also played a es125. Which was great but I concerned about a 50 year old guitar. So, loyal and all knowing gretsch folk, what have I missed? I dig the p90 sound , great for natural blues. I have yet to play a gretsch that has that sound. Almost bought a 5191 and was gonma put in the p90 but the deal fell through. I don't think these is a gretsch made animal with that growl out there, but any suggestions would be great. By the way. I liked the sg cause it had the thinner profile, the other gibsons are too thick. The only dyna like pickup I ever had was on my 5129, and it was nice, but not like the p90. So, any suggestions? Anyone for the Eastwood tuxedo?

Have you given any thought to a Corvette? It's pretty close to the P-90 sound. The Eddie Cochran model has a P-90 in the neck position and it sounds stunning. YOU need one Freddie.

Nothing wrong with a vintage Gibson, in fact better than a new one A 125 is a good guitar, a 330 or an epihone casino better. Then I think is the 225, has a better tailpiece than the 125. Then there is the newer discontinued 135 if you can find one with P 100's no him with P90 tone. I prefer the hollow bodied ones. Also, one of the Canadian companies (wish I could think of it now) has a non cutaway with a P90, nice guitar, not solide woods though. I like the 330 and if I could find one from their non vintage run at a good price I would be very tempted I had an old one for over 10 years and loved it. I only sold it out of stupidity.

I too would like a Gretsch P90 equipped guitar. I am working on refinning a Synchromatic Jet with GFS Dream 90s to get that tone. Others like the Mean 90s instead. Another option is Seymour Duncan, who make a hum bucker sized P90. Or as fender62custom pointed out, TVJ makes a Filter sized T90.

The Eastwood Tuxedo is a nice guitar but the P90s in it aren't the best, plus it's a 25.5 inch scale so you may not find it to your liking.

I looked at one of these and liked it.

For me they rocked like this:

original '65 princeton that I bought from an ad in VG before computer in my house, 1990 I think. paid I think $300. This guy in the south told me, I will send it to you, if you like it send me a check, if not send it back. That does not happen today.

The guitar I searched for for 10 years, a 1960 330 with one of those Brown cases with pink lining. Mint is as close a word as I can use for either of these, the guitar had no checking at all, the case was immaculate other than the handle having a bit of leather rot. I miss this set up.

The one time i went to the store with lots of gretsch's, this was the only one they would let me play. It had the worse set up, which turned me off of it that day. They were not about to set it up for me to try, even though i was i n there looking at jets and the likes. Perhaps if i played on that was set up well. I have heard great things about them, but have yet to witness it. It is a light guitar! Which is good, as i get older.

I have been unable to determine the difference in sound between the p90 and the p100. My understanding is that the p100 is a hum bucker, in a p90 case. I have looked at some 135's, and the owners either want 1500, which is over priced, or I don't have the cash when they are asking 1000. I like them , along with the 137, even though it has the hum buckers. the 137 almost looks like a 125 tic, with a center block so you can crank the volume.

I've only played on once. I loved the sound, it reminded me of a P-90 Les Paul. I found the neck a bit thick for my tastes but it wasn't a deal breaker.

I have considered getting a less expensive hollow body, and putting p90's in it, but the right deal hasn't come by. The guy that was selling the 5191, was asking 600, and i was just a few minutes too late with my counter offer, That would be a hot guitar with the 90's in it.

If that had the 60's neck, i would grab one. i have seen a bunch of those for sale here, for good prices, but i cant get into the fat neck. The 61 reissue, and the townsend model have the neck for me, the townsend with the p90's has the feel and sound. Its 1399 new, and a few places will do 1150 shipped, so as i save and get closer, i am looking at what else is out there.

It was hard for me to judge the neck, with the strings so high up, old and rusty, yet they called a new model. I liked the weight, and you can always do the rory galagher, and put in the p90. I

If you didn't spend so much money on chloroform and rope you could afford another Gretsch.

Two points in favor of the E.C. It's orange, the opposite color to blue and it's a great sounding Jazz axe.

LOL! Yeah, I couldn't afford it myself; but she sher iz purty and she'll get 'r dun! That pup config is what I have planned for my next; but its going to be a rebuild on some yet to be determined, nearly unsalvageable Gretsch body and neck that I hope to stumble onto in the near future....

+1. Casino gives you very nice P90's out of the box and a fully hollow body. IMO you don't need to buy the Elitist either. I think the standard Casinos are top-notch. I played the variants and actually preferred the Chinese-made Casino (standard model) to the John Lennon or Elitist.

Barring that, get a 5120 or 5122 and either put in GFS Dream 90s, Mean 90s, or any other myriad of P90-in-humbucker-case pickups.

The Casino/ES-330 is a great axe.
