Best Side One Track One
Stealing a category from High Fidelity:
What's your favorite Side One Track One song (kind of meaningless to the iTunes generation).
Mine: Graham Parker, Squeezing Out Sparks, Discovering Japan

Man that's difficult....oh well, the first time I heard "The Police's What Can I Do" on "Outlandos D'Amor" at a friends house he played it outta the blue, VERY LOUD it was a shock but very cool! I'm sure I'm gonna think of a whole lot more through out the day.

The Beatles; I Saw Her Standing There; Please Please Me LP. "One, Two, Three, Four!" then it explodes. Nothing has been the same since.

Wow, excellent choice there Doc. SOS is on my top 25 all-time LP list.
As for S1, T1 candidates, maybe The Song Remains the Same from Houses of the Holy (Page's opening chords will forever ring in my head . . . which does explain a lot), or else JJ Flash from Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out (especially because I was at the Friday late show at Madison Square Garden, which provided some of the material on the LP).

I saw Graham Parker for the first time in 1982 and he started off the show with Discovering Japan.

Best song which is the first track on the first side of an album, or the first track on a CD.

Son Volt, Trace, Windfall
Tom Petty, Wildflowers, Wildflowers
Both remind me of my college years and both are songs that make me happy every time I hear them.

Beatles Second Album, "Roll Over, Beethoven."
Pardon me, my age is showing.
BTW, in the states, "I Saw her Standing There" was the second track of side one of the album "Meet the Beatles." Or that might have been my choice, too.

Santo & johnny "sleepwalk". It's been done many times by a lot of people, but the original is my favorite.

Oh come on, it's gotta be A Hard Day's Night. And forget about "first song," it's all in that first chord.

Another one that was pretty good was The Raspberries -Go all the way. Those opening chords got your attention.

In the words of the great Chicago soul man Tyrone Davis - Can I change my mind?
I completely forgot "Tell my fortune" off the Georgia Satellites' first mini LP "Keep the faith". I played that track until the groove turned grey.

Derek and the Dominos, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs: "I Looked Away". I walked into a guitar shop and started playing the intro on a used Duo Jet. the shop owner turned to the other guys at the counter and said: "we're going to make this guy a deal". I walked out owning my first Gretsch
