Custom Mustang/Tele
I have a good friend that build 100%custom hand made in his shop guitars. I inquired about a Mustang body set up for Tele neck and bridge. He called me back and said he only does neck through body and EMG electronics. The rest is up to me. I have free range on everything else. I just need decide what to go with for body wood, neck style frets ect. SO it is time for me to hit the guitar shops and figure out what I want.

Check with Mario Martin at Guitar Mill or USA Customs, they can do that kind of work for you, with a more traditional body/neck. A neck through Tele/mustang (especially one with EMG pickups) sounds odd.

That was my first thought too! I have to come up with the body wood. I have decided on maple neck with two way truss rod, maple fretboard and medium jumbo frets.

I just ordered a body and neck from Guitar Mill. They said it will take about 12 weeks to get them .

i feel like having anything but a bolt on neck would feel odd on a fender style guitar. but this is your custom, and it will definitely be unique.

just curious; are you going with an off-set waist like a mustang/duo sonic II, or an even-waisted body, like a duo-sonic/musicmaster?

P90jj, have you looked at Warmoth? They will make whatever body and neck you want and even customize the pickguard for any combination.
I have tried several models of EMG pickups in Strats and found that they all sounded very sterile and had no warmth.

My cheap old Steinberger clone has EMG Selects in it, the passive Strat-style single coils. They're very quiet and have always sounded good to me, though somewhat missing some of the complexity that a Strat body & neck & better tonewoods would imbue. I've always missed that sound since I've gone on to other humbucker equipped PRS, Epiphone & Gretsch models. EMG isn't just for metalheads.

They do not offer, not that I could find a body with out the mustang trem system. I'm having a extreme high end guitar made, this is not a pieced togeather out of spare parts, everything is made to MY specs, just like ordering from Warmoth, his first guitar was appraised at $2500, and quality is better now. This guy is not a hack job , he is a Luther

It was not real clear to me if "no bridge rout" meant that it would not have the tremolo. Anyway you cannot get a neck-through and that would be sweet. Also a reputable makers name on it would certainly make it worth more at resale if that is a concern.
I will say that I have built 5 guitars that all were at least partly Warmoth and I have found their quality to be excellent. I was lucky enough to get a 24 3/4" scale neck with the Strat headstock before they quit making those. I think I like that scale length better than the standard 24" Mustang scale.
