Default not switching your own effects

metallica likes big stages and putting two levels on it
and when the question rose: wait, what do we do with our pedalboard, we can't drag that around?
they just bought a midget and put that in the back to switch them for them
and now this represents the whole metallica pedalboard
how do we guitarplayers feel about that?
for me, that would be like driving a car and not being able to control the brake
it's not a new thing, i've been suspecting it for a while, just noticed it on their new pics on facebook

That has been going on since mid '80s arena crotch rock when guitarists run extensive multilevel stage courses missing their FX checkpoints...

Gotta have it all at my feet. And can't afford to pay someone just to switch fx for me!

On a related theme, I once read an interview with Steve Miller (I think) who had his fx changes, and even the sweep of his wah, programmed into a sequencer with the drummer playing to its click!
