Larry Graham.
he and his wife are actually good friends with my family and me. we've known them for a few years now. a couple of years ago, we saw him with his band, Graham Central Station in concert. I even saw him bending the strings on his bass, too. great musician ! in case you don't recognize his name, he played the bass for Sly and the Family Stone back in the 60s and 70s.

There's soooooooo many. John Paul Jones leaps to mind. Dennis Dunnaway from the original Alice Cooper Band was severly under appreciated. Tony Levin was always very cool. Mr. Hayden. Mingus. I could go on. I'll spare you.

Probably Tina Weymouth from The Talking Heads... just how she's always losing herself on stage... into it sooo hard all the time.
Les Claypool is talented, but I think he's a total dork sometimes... and not in terms of he's a thinker, but in terms that he just acts like a pretentious stilted Ass clown. Same thing for Roger Waters except the talent part (no where near the level of many bassists out there).

Nice one!
Remember the bass player from the early Tom Waits recordings, Jim Hughart? I loved his playing on those albums. Especially "Nighthawks @ the Dinner".

Sparky Monroe. Used to play with her. Not super technical but solid as a freight train and played with all the conviction of Joan Jett. I never worried about the rythm section when she was playing. Rest well, Sparks.

Carol Kaye. She played the memorable bass lines on a huge amount of hits by various artists as part of The Wrecking Crew.
