A band your still playing on guitar from your youth
When I was Nine years old I discovered a band called Platinum Blonde. When I saw their video for the first time I was blown away by their music and thought their look was really cool. When I first learned guitar this was the first group whose music I wanted to be able to play.
I'm now 37 yrs old. When I'm playing with my gear or just jamming I'm still playing -It dosen't really matter. I thnk I've been playing this song almost everyday I grab a guitar since I was a young pup.
Anyone had a childhood song their still playing. Here's mine.

I toured for a while in the southeast opening for them way back in the 80's. They were extremely humble, nice and awesomely talented. We played some crap little place in Raleigh NC called the Brewery with probable ten people there tops and they killed. Actually I am thinking about Concrete Blonde, duh.
This is one that influenced me intensely. It's deceptively simple and brilliant.
The world changed when I first heard Chet. I wanted to be Chet when I grew up and I still want to be Chet. I can do a few numbers in his style and it feels great when it's going well but I'll never even come close to catching up to him. He's the best guitarist in my world and always will be.

Duane Allman and Dickie Betts....still. It's just that now, there are so many more on the list. I have also come to realize the genius of Chet, and Jazz and everything else in the guitar world that I cannot and won't ever be able to do.
I'd agree with so many of the names already posted - bands like The Beatles, Allmans, ZZ Top, Dr Feelgood (opened for them once back in the early 80s I think it was), along with The Stones, Johnny Cash, Credence, Kristofferson, Hendrix, Elvis, Merle Haggard... in fact I think it would be easier to list the bands I was into in my youth whom I'm not into now... Sex Pistols, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden...

Heh. Mud were my glitter band of choice before I discovered that music existed outside of 'the hit parade'. Saw Slade at Donnington around 1980/1/2 - can't remember for sure - and they were awesome. I recall turning to the guy next to me and saying "They sound like a British ZZ Top".
