Default Cleaning gutters..or how to hurt your fingers

Well here's my "that was Dumb" Christmas decorating story. My wife and I just bought this house about a year and a half ago.. This will be our second Christmas in this house. I made note of the ugly mildew staining on all the white gutters when I was hanging Xmas lites last year. I thought I'd get around to doing something about it this past summer... But SOMEBODY was too busy playing music to get the chores done, so the gutters are still fuggly. No problem says the wanna be musician , I'll just clean them while I'm hanging the lites this week ! Well, it's cold and windy, I'm juggling ladders , cleaning supplies , eave clips , and lights, while listening to XM radio of course. Gloves are not working for me, or with me. I pitch the gloves to the four winds, and start making progress. Did you know that straight bleach on a green scrubber pad will take that mildew right off them gutters??
Did you know that it will also eat the skin off your hands and fingers? Boy them gutters look pretty ! My hands ..well not so pretty. No wanna be pickin this weekend... Moral of the story...you guessed it...WEAR YOUR GLOVES.

Well I started out wearing some junky plasticky gloves, too loose and too wrinkley. I really hate wearing gloves, reason one being loss of sensation (tactile) and reason two is I have Fibro and arthritis. If the gloves are snugg enuff for me to feel things, then they are restrictive, and make my hands ache. The good news is my sister brought me some thick rubber chemical gloves. They do make my hands ache, but I can get on with the project while my hands heal. They seem to be getting worse today, but maybe that's the healing process. The wife gave me some of that "new skin" spray, and with a good coat of that on my right hand I can grip a pick pretty good with out much discomfort. And Jeff O pics will be up tonight ..LOL

two words: pressure washer.

manly goodness and no wear and tear on the hands....

my stupidity was doing my christmas lights (switched to LED's this year! woo hoo are they bright and they use virtually no electricity! the instructions say you can string 45 sets on one plug! hoji mama!

Anyway, I found these cool pressure fittings to hang them with.. very cool... but my hands were super sore last night and I had a gig... achy achy! hope your hands heal up.

they are gorgeous too... my wife asked me which color I liked best and I cocked my eyebrow and said, "honey, I'm a guitar player, the blue LED is always best."

they are a little pricey, but... along with the kit with all the fittings... it will make setup and take down way easy from now on.... and I have like the total hillbilly lit up house now...

oh on the blue LED thing... guys who mod pedals always joke that if you put a blue led and a really bright one... it makes your pedal sound better....

mine are multi colored. I bought them at target... I think I settled on the philips ones...

I love how 'different they look.

Well here are the pics , fingers feel worse than they look. The weird little red lines in the finger tips look like capilaries... The hands and fingers got redder and rawer looking yesterday, but I think they're looking better today. The gutters were pretty bad, so I thought hand scrubbing was the way to go, since I was gonna be hanging lites on them . Next time I'll borrow a pressure washer !

Looks painful, but the gutters look much improved!

I see the LED Christmas lights at Target and always thought it was a good idea. I replaced the bulb in my mini Mag light with three LEDs for my flight suit (required to bring a flashlight everywhere you go) and not only is it wicked bright but the batteries last forever. The only time I've had to replace them in last three years was when I accidentally washed the fliashlight and it drained the batteries a little too much. It still worked, but it was pretty dim.
