So, is there a reason you watch that show?

well, you really don't know me then. after 43 years of waiting for this day, I've got mixed emotions. I'm thinking of two people that I wished could have seen this day. one was daddy. and the other was a very good friend of mine.

Yeah, Houston's going nuts. I live not far from a bunch of relocated Katrina folks who did not return to NO, plus there is a lot of folks here from LA. Houston is crazy about fireworks anyway. Any excuse to blow them off, they do.
Bayou State is probably do the same.

The whole Superbowl thing got me thinking about NFL (or any sports team in general) though. Wouldn't it be more meaningful if the players were actually from the city their team is affiliated with? Hell, how about even being from the same state. I dunno, it just seems weird that these guys have no vested interest in the "city" or "state" they "play for". It's like that across all sports though, not just handball, er, football...

if that were the case, there wouldn't be any professional teams anywhere in the world for any professional sport. including fussball(German for soccer). the Saints have adopted the city of New Orleans and the fans of Louisiana and the city of New Orleans have always been behind the Saints. granted there has been years when we've been very diisappointed in them. but we've always "pulled" for our Saints.

In Britain the soccer teams are usually made up of locals. As I understand it they are sort of a semi-pro setup with team status being related to ability.

Not entirely true. Look at teams like Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal etc... they have talent from all over the world.

Nope, and nope. Money rules, mercenaries thrive. No salary cap, and only a lack of work permit stops you playing for a team.

The amount of money a football club (trans. "soccer team") throws about is indirectly proportional to the number of local players on its books.

Congrats, Saints.

That might be the only way Detroit COULD win a Stupor Bowl.

They get a bunch of thugs outa da hood, and we'd kick some major @$$.

Why not?

Any city could field a team in any sport.

Of course, they would be crappy teams (except maybe Detroit in football )

I can think of many pro athletes in ALL sports with ties do Detroit. And I'm no longer a sports fan.

I wasn't aware of that. I thought that these guys had to work their way up from the local leagues.

I was thinking about you yesterday, Brent. You've got to be one happy man. Now if you can just find a way to move you and your family back to God's country.

You must have never been to Minnesota. It may be cold but it is one of the most beautiful places of the 37 states I've visited.

The local news had shots of people lined up at Academy and Dick's Sporting Goods after the game buying their shirts and caps. There must've been thousands in the French Quarter celebrating.

Good game. I caught it from the halftime show on. I forgot it was on.
Then I saw my relative on the Saints. Scott Fujita (#55).
I thought he was in Dallas for some reason. He was in KC before that at some point.

Jimmy, I think that he's been with the Saints for at least 2 years that I know of. he's a very good linebacker, too.

Mark, he has been up here to Minnesota. I've given him the 50 cent tour of the good guitar stores.

I do need to get back to Louisiana to help momma and help take care of things. the job market has slowed me a little, though. one day I'll get back to Baton Rouge.
