Played my first pro line gretsch
So I went down to the guitar center in Tacoma to test out a few amps because I am downsizing my setup. I've got a Mesa boogie dual rectifier half stack but I don't gig. I was tying to get something going when I got it but that fell through. Anyways I went to GC and went to pick up a 5120, which is what I've got, to test out amps and look at the wall and see something that strikes my eye. I really have no idea why Tacoma of all places has this but they had a Brian setzer 6120SSLVO. I couldn't resist the urge to play it and all I can say is it was amazing and has made the GAS that much worse. Might have to pool the excess from the amp downsizing into something like that...

Well you know how it is, I bought a 5120 to hold me over until I could get. Y hands on a pro line model, just not quite sure which one. I need to play a few more to narrow it down.

Yep, we know how it is all right! I made the mistake of "testing" a Chet 6120. Now, along with that guitar, I also have a White Falcon. It's a dangerous weave, I tell ya...a dangerous weave! Good luck on this most auspicious pathway.

I "tested" a Chet 6120 a couple of days ago and am now trying to find out how I can get my hands on about $3,500(AU)

Nothing beats an SSLVO. You know you want it. Little temptation?

You have just taken your first step into a larger world. Be careful of your bank account. I started with an G5120. I now have a Falcon and a Penguin.

This is a funny thread...
For years I have heard people rave about PRS guitars (in general) and some of them look gorgeous! I have made it my business to NEVER pick one up. I just don't need the GAS!
So far it has worked.
Unfortunately, I just can't say the same thing about Gretsch's. Visiting Tony 65X55's wall of Gretsches didn't help much either.

Back in 04 I had bought a Custom 22 PRS $2400 model.. All I can say is it did noting for me. at the time, I had a Carlo Robelli Gretsch copy, The size difference alone would make you quiver!!! But the Proline Gretsches are just FAR More superior in feel and everything else,

Back to amps, what type of music do you play and what kind of sound are you after? Do you use pedals? Do you think you will ever use it for gigging at all?

I like to play some punk, classic rock, and a little bit of rockabilly mostly. The only pedal i use is a carbon copy. I'd like to think at some point I'll get a band going but even then it'd just be to play at a few local bars from time to time, which is why the hot rod deluxe seems good to me, the big amp i have now is just overkill. I also like the Mesa express models. I'm not really chasing any one tone in particular.

Check out the Orange Terror series for a replacement amp, I play similar styles to you (sans rockabilly) and my Dual Terror does a great job! It's loud enough for small pub gigs (30W) and can be lowered down to 15W & 7.5W which is perfect for home playing.

+1 for Orange terrors. I gig a dual terror (punk stuff too) with a 2x12 cab, perfect for small- med gigs. A little bit of your favourite OD & mebe some reverb is all you're ever gonna need :-)

It is never a good idea to play something you do not own, but we all do. Enjoy the time you can have with it, you can always sell the 5120 too.....and then get a duojet to round out the Gretsch's you have. I know it has been plaguing me since I got my Gretsch a whole 2 weeks ago.

I already want a Jet, just curious as to the tone difference of a hollow, I am sure it is much brighter.
