G5434 Pro Jet Grounding problem
Hello everyone.
This is my first post on this forum and unfortunately it's about a problem with my guitar.
I bought a second hand G5434 pro jet and after about a month or so it started to act up at certain pot settings.
I get an annoying hum from the guitar when I completely turn off the Volume pot on the guitar. When it's fully open, the guitar is dead silent. I think it's a grounding problem, but not sure.
I've also noticed that if I turn the Tone pot completely off and I try to adjust the Volume pot on the guitar, it only needs 1/5th of a full turn to go completely silent. I'm not sure if this is how it used to be Volume-Tone, or...
I'm also not sure if the previous owner did any modifications on the wiring.
I hope I was specific enough to get a few tips how to fix this, since I don't want to spend any extra money taking it in for a repair.
Thank you!

I have the same guitar and I seem to be having the same problem.
At certain times, sound bleeds through when the volume is turned all the way down. It also doesn't seem to reduce the noise until I've turned down past 5 or so.
I thought they were just crappy pots.
I was thinking of switching them out for something better, but i have no
experience with pots whatsoever.
Anybody have any advice on what I should look for?

This is how it should be wired, it wouldn't be a bad idea to upgrade the pots anyway though. It seems to be one of the areas they cheaped out

actually it would work quite well for me I guess, I mostly use either the bridge or both pickups, hardly ever use the neck since it's too bassy for my taste, and I don't want to buy an EQ stomp just for that
but still, wiring it that way might not fix the grounding problem. I've checked the wires connected to the pots and everything seems to be tightly fitted and secure. I thought it could be the electric network I was plugged in, but it did this in 3 other places other than my home.
anyone knows any other tricks with grounding on these guitars?

Do you mean sound as in guitar sound or noise (hum/hiss)? If it's guitar sound then there is something wrong with the volume pot. If it's noise, then we're at the same spot :/
I'll post a reply if I manage to fix it.

This is the current wiring in my guitar. I must admit it looks a bit strange.
"Rdeca" means RED, "Bela" = White, "Zemlja" = Ground
Any tips how to re-wire it?

My Gretsch Country Classic has a kill switch which cuts the guitar output off. It might be worth doing this if you're going to change the pots. You could probably do this using a pot with a pull switch incorperated thus avoiding drilling any extra holes in your guitar.

Thank you all for your input, but I found what was wrong. It was the electrical wall socket, it has bad grounding. I know, right..
