Default 5120 and 5122 to be discontinued

In case you haven't learn about this, both the Electromatic Hollowbody G5120and G5122 are to be discontinued. All the details including the photos of the really cool "baby Falcon" Electromatic G5422 are on the GDP here:

http://gretschpages.com/forum/electr...d/51725/page1/

So far there are 4 pages of discussion regarding the new G5422. It hasn't been mentioned here, so now you know. When you see the new G5422, you'll see it's awesome. No news about a replacement for the G5120 - yet.

Is that a 5122, or a 5422 that she's holding?

Nevertheless, WOW. That looks like a white falcon! I hope the new Pro Jets coming out look just as good!

Anni, is there any news of a 5420 coming out? I like the single cutaway look

ARGH! How hard is it to match the headstock with the body? Its my one major pet peeve (read OCD) with guitars in general. Other than that, everything I read, it sounds like a great guitar. Surprised its only 2 inches deep though.

Isn't the 5122 a thinner body as well? I would assume the 5420 to still be a wide body. Or did they announce it is not?

i tried searching for it again in that Gretschpages link, but i couldn't find it. The first time I read through someone said it measured 2inches front to back.

AAAAARRRG! How can they? The 512/2 had been the best selling Gretsch EVER! Is this a ploy to make folk rush out to buy more Electromatics before they run out? White guitar and black headstock? Seriously? I can think of one guitar I won't be rushing to get.

On second thoughts, perhaps its a ploy to get folk to buy more prolines!

White guitar, black heasdstock! HAHAHAHAH HAAAAA!

I wonder if the back of the neck is black also?

Maybe it was assembled in the dark, and there are a few around with black bodies and white headstocks

At least this move will make my Electros hold their value!

I will withhold judgement until I see the 5420 and the price. There is little doubt the pickups will be a huge improvement over the Gretsch buckers. Those should have never gone on a Gretsch. I like the binding around the F holes. Of course on a white guitar it doesn't show as well. I also wonder what colors we will see in the future. I do not see this selling as well if they price it at $1000 though. I would rather buy a used 5120 and add TV Jones pickups and still have money left for a bridge, nut, tuners and strings.

It seems that there's already a premium on the 5125.

Is the 5422 made in Korea? Or China, like the blacktop Pro Jets? Anybody know?

The Grestch Pages link said that they would still be made in Korea. I assume the factory is set up for making hollowbodies already so they will just keep doing so.

I like my new 5122 quite well. How will these 5422 stack up? The 5122 has a 2.25" depth so it's got to be quite similar. It looks the same with a new paint job and fretboard. What pickups does it have?

My TV Jones pup-install on my 5120 is still fresh. Wonder how this will effect him in the up-grade business? Probably be a long time before/if it does.
I got mixed emotions on this. I got mine new just before the price jump, which is good because of the since-added Tru-Arc and TV's, and a proper set-up. Extreme Value! in my opinion. I recommended and encouraged buying a '20 to all my guitar slingin' pals since day-one (even pre-upgrades) and none have gone for it. Guess this'll make my sound the unique sound at the jams for sure! Kinda the end of an era though, for entry-level but still kick-ass Gretsch. Kinda sad here...
On the other hand, this makes sense. The Electromatics kinda being a shadow of the pro-lines..why not go and do what Squire did and Epiphone too? Branch out somewhat and get some different stuff out from under the mainline Gretsches?? Experiment a bit and see what happens? Less of a financial risk than making them in the US. And I gotta say I didn't like thicker bodies, always wanted a thinner hollow- or semi-hollow for ease-of-reach and comfort. I've since grown to LOVE that sound however it's achieved and can "tolerate" the thickness of the body... only everyday, however, so there are limits... tongue firmly in cheek.
So it's the end of an era, but the new dawn arises.

Does this mean I'm now one of a 'select few'?? That rare upgraded-5120 gang?
