Wrong Bridge with my 5120
I received a 5120 as a gift years ago and I noticed, when looking at pictures of other Electromatics, that there should be a brown piece of wood under the bridge. Mine doesn't have that piece of wood. Do some models come without that? Is it hard to find a replacement if mine is defective?

Show us a picture of what you have for the bridge setup. There are bridge posts that are mounted into the guitars body.

didn't the first generation come with a fixed bridge?
the wood bit is the floating bridge, so the bridge isn't attached to the body, the wood bit is pressed down to the body by the pressure of the strings

I'm thinking 5125, and considered by most to have better sound and more desirable than 5120.

So there was my confusion :-) As I said, it was a gift, so I didn't look too deeply into it. Good to know it's not busted!

That's an early 5125. In the pre-Fender days, the 512x series and the 5120 series had fixed bridges and B70 tension-bar Bigsbys. Around mid 2005 these were changed to the current setup of a floating bridge and a B60 Bigsby.
Nothing at all wrong with your guitar, it's just an earlier version.

Dial those pole heights ASAP, it makes a world of difference. You 'll have one mighty fine sounding geetar.
Kinda like this-

Thanks everyone for the info.! I did get it mid/late 2004 - I imagine when I looked into more detailed info. around that time they had just switched over and that's where my confusion came from. I have some documentation somewhere, but I remember it didn't come with much.
I had to take a hiatus from learning guitar for a while, but now I'm back on track. I use a Fender Princeton 112 amp with it and it sounds lovely and clean to me. Definitely enough for now as I'm learning.
