Default G5191 Neck Thickness

Hi There,

im new to the forum because im interested in a Tim Armstrong model but barely find any information on the Neck thickness at 1st and 12th fret. I come from the Les Paul camp (have an Epi 56 Goldtop and like the Big neck) and am considereing that Gretsch im just wondering if someone has some actual measurements of the neck?

besides from that, would anyone able to weigh up some tonal differences of the maple hollowbody with the filtertrons to a mahagony les paul with p90? the typical comparing of apples with cherrys i play mostly distorted sounds like.. well Rancid and social distortion for example. But sometimes some ZZ Top or AC/DC catches me and i know that they play some Filtertrons. I saw that TV Jones offers some P90 for a Filtertron mount.. maybe that would be a good thing out of both sounds in the future?

I payed the 5191 a while back, when shopping for gretsch's that had what i hoped would be thinner necks. At the time i was playing a 5129 and a 6122 1962. I though both of them had a chunky neck, at least according to how my hands felt them. The 5191 played very easily to. I would compare it closer to the way my strat played compared to the other gretsch's. With the exception of my hotrod, which I got due to the thinner neck, the 5191 was the most comfortable gretsch.

Filtertron Gretsch's and Les paul fill in the model, are as you say apples and oranges. I don't think you will get the same sound, regardless of pickup choice. If you play really loud, even with the bracing in the 5191, you will run into feedback eventually. How ever, if you are considering a new 5191, which is not a bad guitar, for a little bit more ypou can get a used pro series Jet. It has, what i believe, the best of both worlds for what you are looking to get. Take a look at them, and I think if you played one, you might appreciate it.

Good luck, and welcome to the forum.

Thank you for your reply! I forgot to write: its not about adding another Guitar to the collection, its more like.. buying "one" new guitar because you're moving and its waaay too much hassle to take your existing guitars with you. There are more important things first but, well, i can not not have a guitar . So for the Jet idk., i'd probably rather look into the Les Paul with P90 again but that 5191 looks more like something I could get more different sounds out of it upfront depending on the AMp. I would need to get an amp too btw. (currently have a TSL100). So far i have only found one youtube video where the sound is VERY close to what i like .

Anyways, any real measurements for the Neck? Its weird that the Gretsch dosent give any Information on that. I would go test one but nowhere available here.

PS sorry for my bad english, its not my 1st language!
