New Guitar
Hello from San Diego! Im one of strange ones that loves a great guitar, About 17 years ago a friend of mine gave me a Danelectro '59 DC which I loved but never got the chance to really put it through its paces with my original psychobilly three piece I had at the time cuz it got stolen. I was bummed but life goes on. Now three months ago I saw one at a little shop here in town for $179, I was thrilled but I didnt have the cash, That following Saturday I went to get it and I got there too late. Monday, after work, I was excited and went to go and take it home. I walk into the shop, headed for where it was and to my horror it was gone! I asked the owner of the shop about it and he told me that he had sold it that afternoon, I was bummed. So i found another one at a different store A burgundy '56 U2 this one was for $300. I played it and it was nice but the volume controls didnt work, they turned but had no effect on volume level. I went home discouraged but started looking on line and much to my surprise discovered that NEW reissues built in Korea, were about to be released and that I could preorder one. I dont like to buy guitars on line cuz ive had bad experiences before. What was different was that they do a complete set up before shipping, that sold me. It arrived Thursday about an hour after I got home from work. It plays and sounds B**chin! Its sounds nothing like my Hot rod Gretsch......but my Gretsch sounds nothing like my Dano! two very different worlds, you want twang? The Dano's got twang galore! I got the Modded version AKA the Jimmy Page model with the stop tail bridge like a Leo Quan Badass bridge. ME HAPPY!

i was trying to find a danelectro for the longest time, but couldnt find anything under 400 dollars, which was out of my price range. but lucky me, i found a 60's silvertone for 250 on ebay. bought it immediately, and it has been one of my favorite guitars ever since.

yeah it is a NICE guitar! heres the break down:
I compared and contrasted it against my:
G5120 with hot nashville in the bridge and a surf90 in the neck
Yamaha Pacifica with a Humbucker in the bridge and standard single coils mid/neck.
pedals: Carbon copy/blues driver/fab chorus
Amp: Red Frontman 212R 100 watt
low volume
The Gretsch sounds like a Gretsch full and rich, no surprise there. Yamaha is loud in bridge position and sounds more like a strat then a strat does in the neck position, really! it does. Period.
The Dano: DAMN! its the twangiest most crunchiest thing I've ever played! definitely has its place and its limitations. Bridge pick up alone is thin and weak, BUT could sound killer for hi octane leads. Middle position (both pickups) LOUD and full! super duper crunchie hyper twangy, Neck pick up is full but not like a strat since its more in the middle of the guitar then the standard neck location more useful for all around playing. Ill be using this guitar for twangy rockabilly and chicken pickin' stuff. By the way, this guitar makes me play very differently than I normally do. Like Ive written befor it does not sound like a Gretsch BUT, my Gretsch does not sound like the Dano!
