New filtertrons in my 5120
So I decided to upgrade to filtertrons in my 5120. The Gbuckers were ok, but I found them very muddy. So I bought some HS Filtertrons and installed them last week. I went with the wood shim method. I just glued some wood shims into the guitar and then glued in spacers to bring it up to where I needed it. It really was not that hard. But then, I have the saws to cut the wood. I just used a piece of Maple hardwood I had leftover from renovating.
Anyway, I love these pickups. The note clarity is excellent and the tone is amazing. I played it in church today and had a guy come up during practice to ask why my guitar sounded so good. So if you are thinking of an upgrade, this one is definitely worth it. And it's not that expensive either. All I know is I got what I was looking for with these.

I wish I got compliments for my playing at church. Maybe its my crappy tv jones me and the good Lord knows that my g5120 sounds like a choir of seraphim.
Your pickup installation looks alot better than mine. I might have to redo mine sometime.

If you think it's your TV Jones, we could trade pickups
Thanks for the compliments though. I do love these pickups.

Thanks everyone, I forgot to say thanks to all you who shared your knowledge and experience on this forum. I couldn't have done it without all your help. I wouldn't even have know this was possible without all you posting, so thanks.

Why mount them like this instead of the EM type?

1. My local guitar store had the bezels. 2. It would have cost more in shipping for the EM rings, than for the rings themselves. (I'm in Canada, and I'm cheap). 3. I just like the cleaner look without the screw in the middle. I'm kinda picky like that. Or maybe I just like doing things the hard way

I too don't like the look of the screw in the middle.
Looks a bit crowded. O:

how close are the pickups to the strings? I've seen measurement suggestions somewhere for TV pu's, can't recall seeing any for filtertrons.
I put filtertrons in mine using a screws through the bezel method. works fine. I have them as high as I can now, would have to get extra risers to get them closer - you're method looks simple, easy to raise the pu with shims, and seem would be pretty solid.

That really looks perfect. I could never have done it so neatly if at all.
