I actually think the strat jack looks really good on there, and I would have mounted it the same way as I also wrap the cord in the strap. Good idea man.
I really like the idea of lights too, I might have to try that on one of mine. I could see some bright green LEDs in there...

I have used a lp jackplate to fix it among others. No matter what I would do it would eventually be broken again. My guitar takes a pretty rough beating on stage haha. But thank you all the same for the advice!

No problem, didn't mean any offence! I guess I never had that problem , I do what you do, wrap the chord around the strap.

Personally, I would like to hear more about the broken pickguard instance, and where are you guys playing next?

Haha the broken pick guard happen while my band (The Dirty Mugs) was touring the west coast, not sure what city exActly. But we are all pretty rowdy on stage and basically what happened was something to the effect of me jumping off of the drum riser without really looking at what was goin on around me and at the same time the bass player was jumping in some other random direction on the main part of the stage and as he was going up I came came down and the only thing that hit him was somehow my pick guard. I didn't even notice it had broken until the show was over and the only bits left were about 1" sized pieces where the guard was screwed in haha.
But the next place we are playing is in Tulsa, Oklahoma this coming Tuesday. I imagine that's probably pretty far from most people which sucks because everybody on this forum seems to be pretty awesome and I would love to be able to hang out with everybody!

Didn't want to start a new thread for this.
My nut came unglued and is held on by string tension. Instead of gluing it back I want to get a brass nut. But I can only find them made for fenders and Les pauls. What to do??

6120 DSW's come with brass nuts...you should be able to find one somewhere that will fit your 5120. Check with your local luthier too...

My band just got back from a 10 day trip from Oklahoma to California and back, and the adventure led me to do some odd business to my guitar. I recently put in tv classics and was planning on getting a new harness to go with it, but instead I just salvaged the best wire and volume pot in the existing harness and made a "hotrod harness" and I am very pleased. I really didn't expect it to alter the sound of the pups enough for me to notice. I just did it because the pickup switch and master vol is all I've used since installing the classics, but much to my surprise the sound from my guitar was a fair amount clearer and responsive than before (didn't even think that was possible). I've read on here that some people have gotten "ice pick" treble from this mod, but mine didn't sharpen the high end any, it just made the guitar better sounding overall.
Will post pics as soon as I figure out what I'm gonna do with all the empty holes

Well, i'd like to know that myself, 6! A guy came along with us just to take vids and pics. Got TONS of footage, but as soon as we got back the guy disappeared and hasn't talked to any of us. But I'll track it down sooner or later

On a side note, I would like to put a compton bridge on this guy, but I use .13-.56 guage strings and have not found any reading on strings that large and i feel like the intonation would be an issue. Thanks a ton for any advice!
|
I think that will will work out. However, here's some cautions:
1) Use a wound g-string for large gauge sets.
2) Use a floating bridge base. It's unlikely that the fixed bridge pins on your guitar are in the right place on your guitar. Once you get the bridge in the right place for the strings you like, you can easily pin the base by any of several methods. Judging from your description of your gigs, I think you may be one of the few players that actually need to pin your bridge.
Have fun,
Lee

Or you could do like I did....get a cord with a 90 degree on the end......

Thanks for the comments folks!
The 90 degree cable would have been great if I would have used it before my issue happened, but oh well. Also, I have since put a copper Compton on with my larger strings (with wound g) and had no problems with intonation. I realize the strat jack is very bad for resale value, but my guitar was very road worn anyhow, and I hadn't seen it before so I just went for it. And I like it quite a bit. I'd never sell this guy anyway. It's my first gretsch and it has felt plenty of my blood, sweat, and tears to be quite sentimental to me now. It knows how to take a beating better than any other guitar I've owned, so when I can I give 'em what he wants (i.e. Strat jack, compton, tv classics, hotrod wiring). When I get the money I'm gonna jump for some steinberger gearless tuners too!!

+1 for the Steinberger tuners. I think I payed $70-75 for blacks on ebay.
That jack reminded me of a weird ESP strat body I had some years ago, I saved the pics of it because of the side mounted jack, sold the body to a floyd rose freak

Cool that's not a bad price at all. Are they actually as awesome as they seem? On paper they appear to be the best tuners ever
