Scale length is measured to where?
Ok I dont wanna hear no snickerin out there. Last night I allowed myself to get totally distracted while changing the strings on my 5120, and before I knew it the bridge was laying on the floor. Now I have to go thru that intonation process
My question is this: Is the scale length measured to the center of the bridge, or to one of the edges ?
The plan is to use scale length to get an approximate position, intonate the two E strings, and since I havent messed with any of the adjusters the other 4 strings should be pretty darn close.

theboss: Measure from the fretboard side of the nut to your 12th fret on the 1st E string side. Now double that measurement and measure from the back enge of the nut to where your 1st E string crosses the bridge saddle. This will be very close for the 1st string. Usually the 6th E string will have a longer distance of at least 1/8" from the nut.
Another quick way is if to measure 24 and 1/2" on the 1st string side and 24 and 5/8" on the 6th string side. Then go from there.

Synchro: I actually may have borrowed some of that information from reading some of your highly technical posts.

Could be. I probably borrowed it myself somewhere along the line.

on an f-hole guitar, the bridge position is typically more or less lined up with the central diamond-shaped cutout of the f-hole. this was probably passed down to archtop guitars from the bowed violin-family instruments, which also follow this convention.

Double stick tape it in place when you have it in place. Great directions here from G-Ters!

I guess the Gods Of Screwup were watching over me. I did the "double that measurement" thing and the 1st/6th string harmonics at the 12th were dead on, first time. You're right about the 6th having a longer distance but that was already set with the adjuster and it came out perfect. Thanks for the tip.

I didn't know that but now that I have the bridge back in place it's location is exactly as you describe. Good Tip. Thanks
