Working on the first Sassafras Amp Stand
I think it's turning out well, Sassafras and Black Walnut make great two tone gear.

Sassafrass smells so good when you work it. When I was a boy we used it for everything, from hitching rails to pole barn poles. We also used to dig the roots for my Mom who used them for tea.

Thanks dg, yeah it is some sweet lumber, I tried to pick out some good figured boards for this one. I'll be attaching the backrest to the base of the stand soon and getting all the hardware on it. When I get done I'll take better pictures of it and share.
Here is a Walnut and Maple one that is somewhat similar in design, you can get an idea of how it will turn out, but I think I like the sassafras better than the maple to contrast with the walnut. The sassafras has more pronounced veins than the tight grained maple, giving it more contrast.

thanks, check it out, lots more info to be gotten from there.
I build all my stands from sawmill lumber, takes a bit of time, but when I'm done they are the finest out there.

Looking forward to the Sassafras though, I think it is my new favorite.
kind regards.

I can sure see why you are keeping it. It will make a great display model for shows.

yeah, after building about 40 stands now and sending the out into the world I figure it's time I got one too Plus I want my amp to match and I need to learn how to build decent combo cabinets, so I'm doing that next, going to build it to match this stand. maybe down the road sometime I'll let both go as a matching pair, but not for a while. I'll be happy to build another one though.
I started transplanting the Ampeg to it's new cab today, I'm thinking I'll hand plane the whole thing and do dovetails as well. I just have to design the front grill...Might do some wiring upgrades while i have it out.

Well, I tried to call it my own, but it looks like the Sassafras Amp Stand has a new home now. A man in NY called and talked me out of it yesterday. I got him to agree to let me at least hold onto it long enough to take some pictures of the matching cabinet and stand together. I guess I should make another one, but probably a studio instead of the low rider next go-around.
deep breath.

Slowly but surely the cabinet is taking shape...I'm considering a trans black lacquer for the finish. It's a 1968 Ampeg GS-12-R
