GreatGretsch: Sorry about the down time, there were a few things that needed my attention and was unavoidable. The site will be back online late in the day of Nov 26th. Thanks to all for your understanding.

Wayne,
Great Idea, I know that I've been very pleased with how your titanium bridge brought my Duo Jet back to life, and yesterday has made my son's 5120 scream...no more getting pushed around by his friend's P90's.
IMHO, Your bridges are the best value for your investment dollar.
Would make a great stocking stuffer...hint...hint...Wifey if you are reading this...take note...please

Great Gretsch,
You are in for a BIG Surprise, clearer tone, longer sustain, and more volume.
I am not kidding, IMHO these are wonderful products.
Let us know how your Hot Rod turns out.

Hi Ray - Looking forward to hearing your audio samples. I have both a stainless steel and bronze Compton bridges. They're really great. I've never played a titanium one, but the stainless steel will really enhance the guitar. I like the bronze for more mellow jazz tones, but favor the stainless one overall - definitely sweet. - Rick

Hey Rick 'dezorzi,' You said you have a 'bronze' Compton. - Don't you mean Brass or Copper? - I don't think Compton Bridges even makes a 'bronze one.
Did you mean Brass, or Copper?
Thanks,
Tom - 'Stingker'

He probably means copper. Bronze is an allow typically made by combining copper and tin.

I listened to the sound samples many times, and for what I am looking for, the SS was the one that sounds the best. The second choice would be an aluminum Compton.
They all look much better than the tunomatics.

Hi Fellas - Yeah, I meant to say "brass" - sorry. That's what happens to ya when ya get older and spend too much time outside moving snow in cold, windy conditions - brain freeze.

The brass Compton looks great! They look classy.
Rick, do you have any photos of your guitars? I'm sure everyone would like to see them.

Hi Ray - I'll have to take some photos. Unfortunately, my guitar collection is spread out from CA to PA. Both my son and son-in-law play, so I have guitars and amps parked at their houses. They enjoy playing them (and will end up inheriting them anyhow), but there are some real nice old beauties out west. I'll be sure to get photos when I head west for Christmas to see the kids and grandkids.

I'm currently in the process of "finishing" my "tremolo quest" (only one more to buy), but after that my 1st purchase is going to be a SS Compton for my Candy Apple Red Hot Rod. I'm so tired of the TOM "rattle" and the Comton just looks so classy.

Compton for Country Gentlemen
Thinking of replacing the Tom on my 72 Country Gentlemen with a Compton...does anyone one have pictures and experiences with SS or Brass Comptons on a Country Gentlemen they would like to share? I am torn about looks vs. what sound I want...I think I would like it to be a little brighter (SS) but not sure how it will look (vs. brass). Either way looking forward to getting rid of some Tom rattles and hoping to lower/even out the action too. Here is a picture of my gretsch :

(guitar has since been re-fretted and I replaced the pickup bezels with reissue gold plastic ones, seems my guitar was one of the last to come with these but at some point someone changed then to the 70's style brass ones). Any input appreciated...thanks!
EDIT: My apologies...this is sort of a duplicate of a post I have here ( http://www.gretsch-talk.com/forum/vi...gentleman.html) but thought this might be a better place to get some feedback.

Hi Fostewi - I know exactly what you mean in the way the bridges blend into the overall appearance of the guitar. Actually, we as players notice it far more than anyone else. Yes, the stainless steel is brighter, but, in my opinion, only slightly (of course, the acuteness of my hearing isn't what it used to be). If you are happier with the appearance of the brass Compton on your guitar, you won't be disappointed. I think the brass has some wonderful tonal differentials to the stainless, and, either way, you'll be way ahead of having the TOM on there. I've gone back and forth with the brass and the stainless on my Anni, and even though the stainless definitely looks better, I'm more and more enjoying the tonal qualities of the brass. Like I said, the differentials between brass and steel, to me, are slight, but all the Comptons really make a difference in playability.

I got my SS Compton yesterday.
All I can say for now is "WOW!!!!". I will give my take on it after a few days and the correct guage strings are on my Setzer Hot Rod. It plays much better and sounds awesome.

Hi Ray - Glad to hear you like the new SS Çompton so far. Wayne's bridges really are a wonderful compliment to the Gretsches. In truth, Fender would be way ahead of the game if they simply contracted with Pops and put them on all their guitars - especially the Setzer models. or other models with the 9.5 degree radiuses.

GreatGretsch- please do report back! A SS Compton is what I'm going to get, and I was going to keep the radius mismatch (because I'm used to it)... but since you've got a Hot Rod and ordered the new matching radius, I really want to hear what you think of that.
