Tony65x55 July 11th, 2012, 06:36 PM Had a very pleasant visit today from a new friend. Jeff, AKA jflintmac on this forum came to visit and swap me guitars. You see, Jeff had a beautiful 5125 that he wanted to put Filter'tron's into and I had a beautiful 5120 that I wanted to install this spiffy new pair of Dyna's into. Neither idea was going to easily work so....
In the great Gretsch spirit of friendship that defines this terrific forum, Jeff drove two hours to my home and we swapped Gretsch guitars. While we were at it, we played with some of my other guitars and amps and became friends. Very cool, I not only got a sweet new axe out of the deal but I made a new friend and it doesn't get better than that.
Jeff, it was a pleasure to meet you and I hope you are as happy with your new sweet 5120 as I am with my new 5125.
Interestingly, my 5120 was also black so it's like it never left home. Here's a pic of the new 5125 awaiting her surgery with the new Dynas and her sister 5129, AKA, the Red Falcon

audept July 11th, 2012, 09:18 PM Very nice, Tony. Is this the start of a 512X collection? What are you planning to do with the DeArmond 2000's from the 5125?
Ricochet July 11th, 2012, 09:23 PM Congrats. They look like a great match, in a ham/cheese kinda way...uhm that's good!

I'm not sure Audept, they'll fit in any P90 soapbar mount and my JJ2 has some P90 soapbars in it now. Then again, I really like the way it sounds already. Maybe in one of my P90 Teles? Wonderful choices huh?

I'm just itching to hear the sound of Dyna's in one of them. I love the DeArmonds too, so I wasn't willing to tear 'em out and lose that sound from my tonal palette but I don't have a hollow body with Dynas....yet!
6stings July 12th, 2012, 01:12 AM Well done Tony & Jeff!!! Happy NGD to both of you guys!

Yes, it really is a great forum. Thanks to all.
jflintmac July 12th, 2012, 11:09 AM Well, on the other end...
I drove out to Tony's place yesterday, Bad back and all. (pulled a muscle a few days ago and it hurts like heck! It's a little better today and I will heal)
Anyways, Tony's guitar collection was nothing short of amazing. He's got more Gretches than my local dealer. His wife must be a great lady. I think she was at work while we played guitars!
Don't get much better than that (wink)
Just kidding, Tony works too although I can't, for the life of me, figure out where he finds the time?
He was a really great guy to talk to and he's got a lot of knowledge when it comes to all things Gretsch. As for me I am a basic newb to the gretsch world but I am here for the long haul now. I've been a Fender guy for more than a few years but I have come to realize that the Gretsch hollowbody has so much more life and it just fits me so well.
Tony, It was a real pleasure. You are a gentleman for sure, and I love the trade we did although my wife thinks I brought home the same guitar that I left the house with.
(at least she noticed that much) :)
Cheers!
Tony65x55 July 12th, 2012, 11:16 AM The pleasure was mine Jeff. My wife looked at the guitar and said, don't you already have one of those? (Sigh)
Great trade and wonderful meeting you.

6stings July 12th, 2012, 12:08 PM Rule #2, don't forget that guys. If you don't play by the rules, I'm confiscating all your Gretsches and Teles!
