What is the difference between "Recent Threads" that I see on the right side of the page and "New Posts" that I see on the tool bar at the top pf the page?

I'm looking for an easy way to stay on top of new activity- I guess I want new posts and new threads (which would seem, by definition, to contain new posts). But what do I know?

About the only diffrence that I found is that, when you hit new post you can see who was posting. Where recent threads you just see the tittle and that someone has posted.
