Smells like Tweed to me!:D
Mine is Jim Frenzel's FM-5E3 DP Deluxe Plus head. I decided to go for the Black Cage. As Jim said, it was 'inspired by the 50's Fender Deluxe 5E3, with added a Marshall JTM45 channel, replaced the 6V6 with 6L6 and boosted the power to 25w...' .

That's a serious looking tweed!!! i've admired that amp of yours for a while...thanks for posting some quality close ups..that vintage series celestion must throw out some serious tone!! is that your gigging amp..what sort of music are you playing through it.

:eek:Hey Darko...if she smells like tweed l guess that's alright with me...l was going to send you to your room for punishment, but you probably have a guitar & amp in every room...perhaps we can call it a Twenzel!!:D

I don't play gigs, this is purely for personal use. The tragedy is I have to keep this amp at work where I can turn it up during lunch breaks. It sounds great when it's cranked, but it's way too loud for home (we share a wall with a young couple with a baby), so I had to buy a Vox AC4TV and use the 1/4 watt setting to avoid neighbour complaints. I sometimes go in to work on Saturdays purely so I can play through the amp for a few hours. The music I like to play is Classic Rock mainly, anything with power chords and lots of harmonic distortion. In my playing days in the 60's I had a Strauss 300W valve amp with 6 KT88 valves and 8 Celestion G12M's. I miss that amp.

Homebrew 5F2A Tweed Princeton in a Gretsch Cowboy style cabinet.

The amp has the following mods:
* Tone control bypass switch.
* Switchable cathode bypass cap on V1a to select between 25uf/25 (5F2A), 1uf/25 (boost) or no cap (just 1.5K resistor - 5F1 Champ).
* VVR control.
* Switchable NFB

Here's my Hot Rod Deville. I bought it brand new, but damaged in shipping. The cabinet and speaker baffle were crushed. I built a solid pine cabinet and covered it with linen tweed. Then I hit it with amber shellac and several coats of lacquer.

Oxblood grill grill cloth and a leather handle finished it off.

K, this is not a TRUE Tweed amp, but it's the closest I have (and with the Mods I've done, it's getting very Tweed sounding)

My Classic 30. Mods to date: WGS Reaper (G12H30 replacement) replaced the stock Blue Marvel. Tube Tamers to eradicate the tube rattle, custom tube set to get more of a Tweed sound, a tone cap change (along same lines). Planned is lacquering the tweed.

Thanks for the verbal endorsement Mark!!! l value your feedback & as l said in a prior thread; your review had a bearing on my decision...l just love the simplicity of the tweed look & the 'tweed' tone as evidenced by the varying examples already shown...l've been gassing for a point to point finger-joined pine tweed for as long as l can remember....it's obviously a costly investment but l plan on keeping this for the rest of my days...it didn't fall off the back of a truck, but l got it at a price that l couldn't refuse...very blessed indeed...it'll be a players amp, so she'll get a lot of love from a lot guitarists l know & mix with....to say that it's the best you've played is a big statement though!! it's probably not every bodies cup of tea but it's a perfect fit for me...two amps are probably being culled so the Rivera & the EC will stay..cheers mate!! :)

Hi Stings, yes it is a Clark Piedmont (59 replica). I did not know he did a head version of it, though my knowledge of his work is quite limited. I can tell you that anything built by Mike Clark it is to the highest standard and the workmanship is second to none. I have found him to be helpful via email so perhaps he could be of assistance if you have specific questions? mikeclark@clarkamplification.com

One of Bruce Zinky's designs as far as i am aware, he said he built it to be everything a vibroverb should have been after fender stuffed the vibroverb full of cheap parts.
