Hi everyone, my name is Josh and I currently live in Utah. Sadly, I do not yet own a Gretsch guitar, but I'm GASing for one, and hopefully I'll be able to get one here soon. I'm a college kid, but who needs food, right? But since it's pretty much a given that my next guitar will be a Gretsch, I figured I'd start learning as much as I could about them, as this will be my first foray into hollowbody guitars as well. I play mostly blues and indie/alternative rock and I figure a Gretsch will be the perfect addition to my collection.

Howdy back! Welcome. There are a number of gonnabees on this site so you are not alone. Get the Gretsch, but get through college too.

Make sure you read the threads about "You should have warned me" and "It's all your fault" and "Gas". There may still be hope for you and it wouldn't be right not to allow you a fully informed choice.

Hi Josh! Any idea on which gretsch you are wanting?

I'm leaning towards an Electromatic G5122. My budget doesn't let me look at anything much more than that, and based on what I've read on here about them, I'm now factoring in the basic upgrades that most people seem to do pretty much immediately after they buy one (Compton bridge, new nut, etc). I've played a couple at different guitar stores around town, and it just feels really good in my hands. So hopefully I'm looking to pick one up by the end of the summer. Of course, I hear the 5422 is coming out, and depending one the response to those, I may shoot for one of them.

My guess is that the 5422 will be very good.

My guess is that the 5422 will be very good.

I would assume so as well, even based off my limited experience with Gretsch quality. I think I mostly just want to see how they feel for myself.
