Hello everyone! I've read positive reviews about Pro Jets made in China...could you tell me if they are really ok as many people said?

I have an Electromatic made in Korea and it's really great (concerning the price) but i never had chance to try a Gretsch made in China...

I'll wait for some feedbacks ;)

Thanks a lot

I have two and they're as good, if not better than anything I've played.

Love my G5435 and would recommend one to anyone wanting to try a Gretsch. Very well built and finished guitar, and gorgeous to gawk at. If I had any nits to pick it'd be the fact that they used lots of pieces (4 or 5) to make the body, and the pots are just okay.

Great guitar. Their weakness is the pickups but the new ones are much better and besides, pickups are cheap!

My double jet is either 1 piece (jusdging by the grain) or maybe 2 very well matched pieces. Certainly not 4 or 5.

Actually, I like the Blacktop Filters they us as much as the one TV Jones Classic I have, and slightly better than my Seymour Duncans. That is, in the Jet. May not work on a different git. Do they sound the same as the TVJ? No. Probably a tiny bit less versatile. But, imho they sound as good, albeit different tone.

I'd actually say, the new Electro pro jets (atleast at the G543x and G544x level (all I've tried), 'weak point' is their pots. Some like me, get perfectly functional ones. Others have had some issues.

All of that said, they match anyting at their proce point, and exceed most. IMHO, the G5445T I have stands up with gits whose street price is at the 1K mark on other brands. Fit and finish, playability and tone are top notch. Of my 10 guitars. I have only 3 that have no major tone/playability mods. My 2 electromatics and My Schecter Blackjack Tempest. The rest have different pups put in, or new nuts (and pups). K, I did put in Compton bridges on my Gretsches, but not because they NEEDED them. That was just icing on the icing of the cake.

Yep, I concur. The BT Filter'trons are very good and sound terrific. Almost as nice as the regular filter'trons. That's not damning with faint praise because the sound of a regular Filter'tron makes me swoon. The older mini-humbuckers are enjoyed by some folks but I usually rate them between hideous and wretched. Easy to replace though and the guitars are beautiful instruments.

Hi, I have a Pro-jet made in China, it was really good. I like because Setzer has one sparkle. But I like more the hollows. Mine is G5236 silver. I have changed the tailpice for a Bigsby, B3 that bought in TV Jones website. And changed the pickups for a dynasonic single coil that I take for a G5125. I put an extra knob, so I have on my guitar master tone, bridge pick up and neck pick up. It looks great and feel great.

I have both Chinese and Korean, older Pro Jets, bought them cheap and modified. Now they are good.

Hi Carlos, if you took the pickup out of the 5125 than it was DeArmond 2000.

Looks like they're not bad at all then ;)

Which changes would you recommend? Hardware or pickups?

I was talkning about the 'old' Pro Jets with mini humbuckers, I have never tried the 'new' ones.
I replaced the minibuckers with Dynasonics and DeArmond 2000s, you can replace the Bigsby and the tuners too. You have plenty of options when it comes to pickups...

Mine is the same way. I have an older 5246 Double Jet with the mini humbuckers. Still need to get them changed out but that's my only complaint with the guitar. Quality is top notch and the finish is gorgeous without any flaws I've managed to find.

I will say that a lot of my faith is being restored in Chinese made instruments. I purchased a Chinese made baritone saxophone a couple years back and it is damned near perfect. Plays as well as, if not better, than the French made Selmers and it was less than half the price of a used one.

Was it a direct swap from the mini humbuckers to Dynasonics and/or DeArmond or did you have to do some routing? I bought a Pro Jet with HS Filtertrons and really like it. Thought about getting another Pro Jet to put some Dyna's into it. Mostly worried about the height of the neck pickup.

The Dynas are 2 mm wider then the routings. You have to do some routing/sanding, or shaving the Dyna housing's edges. I have tried both.
No problem with the neck pickup height at all.
There are old threads about the modifications, try to search.

Here's one with the 'shaved' Dynas housings:

And another one with wider pickup routings:

They will also allow P90's to drop right in.

The old Pro Jets? Absolutely, they are perfect for soapbar sized pickups.
