hi everybody. yesterday i wrote and recorded a song. i was pretty proud of the final result, so i shot a little music video for it. it's a goofy little just-for-fun kinda thing.
i trust the people on this forum very much when it comes to music, so any feedback would be greatly appreciated. even if it's negative feedback.

let me know what ya think!

1. Not enough T&A.
2. Not enough Gretshes.
3. I like it! Viva la differance!

Got a real 80's underground feel...trippy dance vibe ...catchy...interesting...needs some work...potential there...maybe an alternate rhythm to break it up a bit... better production would lift it a fair bit!! keep it up...cheers!!!

I'm into the track a bunch. I love how frenetic yet hypnotic it is.

If you want video feedback try varying your shot framing and pull the camera in much closer. Think about your shot variation like you do your music: it's not just a single note at one volume, there is variation in tone, size, length etc. Same applies to the visual.

thank you everyone! especially beatnik. those are some huge compliments, and i really appreciate them.
polishbroadcast, thank you for the compliments and advice. however, i know next to nothing about shooting video. this was shot from my laptops built in webcam. the camera was as close as it could be because my laptop was on the very edge of my bed. also, i was operating the camera myself, which was already quite difficult. it was a goofy video, never meant to be great quality.

it makes me very happy to hear that some of you like my music.

Pretty good work dude. Dig the bass. Do you have a stereo phase going over the whole finished product or just a few of the individual tracks?

I find your videos are always interesting and often thought provoking.
Hope you enjoy making them as much as I enjoy watching them! ;)

thanks lizard king! i am not sure what stereo phase means, so my guess is no. i need to learn more recording terminology. haha

drewgrass, that is possibly the greatest compliment i've ever received. reading that was the highlight of my day. maybe my week. thank you so much.

I don't know about you guys, I hear Lou Reed in there. From me thats a big compliment. Lou's the man. Plus you made a whole video of a song. I cant even figure out how to get a sample of my gear up on this forum. Thats cause me and Joe Walsh are both Analog guys! I like it cause its you, and you put it out regardless of what others may or may not say. Original is original, and hats off to that. Even though you do color coordinate rather well, it will never match the impact of the girls in the Robert Plamer video, addicted to love. Those of us that suffered throughout the 80's know what I mean.

I love the fact that you are young and using media to move your art forward. Especially recording your own music and producing it with video. Who cares if its not "right".. Youre talking to an old musician that is now making pedals and amps and I dont know WHAT IN THE HELL I am doing, I'm just doing it because I must.
Its in me and it must be created.
Feedback and affirmation is a great thing, but keep listening only to one voice dude.. yours!
I watched a friend of mine ages ago when he was 18 (when I was 27) go from recording outlandish things on a tascam 4 track that made me scratch my head to now.. He's now working in nashville as an engineer some 20yrs later. He produces my albums and is amazing. He can make water from scratch! He has doubted his path many times, gotten lost on the way but dusts himself off and keeps walking.

He still has a dream to "make it" musically as an artist but his talent is just stunning as a producer.

here's a video of his that he did for fun.. wrote the music, recorded ALL the music, mastered all the music, directed his video,etc.. (video though was produced by his neighbor that has Keith Urban in his resume). Just remember he started EXACTLY like
you just making music for his friends to listen to with an animated style.

Yeah too right - I hear a bit of velvet underground. Nice one Calvin! Funny thing is about 2 mins in I suddenly noticed my foot tapping - started all by itself - that's a good sign!

I don't know about you guys, I hear Lou Reed in there.

Now I really hate you;) But only because your young, slim, good looking and very talented.:D I actually liked it a lot and I am older than dirt.

It's got a great Vibe/Groove! It also made me think of Lou Reed. Keep it up!!! My only suggestion would be to shorten it a bit. (I have a short attention span:D )

I almost never bother to click web links on a forum, my attention span isn't lo......

;)

I liked it too. I don't get to hear a lot of music recorded which is more about the journey than the destination. It was great to see you do something just for fun and with that fun being more important than playing/recording perfection that really shone though in the performance.

The song is still good of course, just the fun and passion on it's own wouldn't be enough to make us all watch it through to the end and your style and creativity are fab. Nice work. :D

Hi Calvin, I listened to the music without watching the video. Thereby hangs a tale, and no offence intended...

...and I enjoyed it - I particularly liked the use of echo on the guitar, and the released bend(?) on the bass.

Keep it up mate!

I don't need to be drunk to go all wibbly-hatstand. Played a gig last night in Hungerford, mug of tea to hand (good for voice), and kicked off proceedings by uttering the words 'Good evening Newbury'*. Don't think I'll live that one down for a while, but forgetting what town you're playing in is very rock'n'roll!

But if we can get back on topic for a moment, Calvin looks/sounds like he's enjoying playing, arguably the Main Thing (always good to have someone tell you what the Main Thing is :))

*For non-Brits, or even non-local Brits, Hungerford and Newbury are neighbouring towns in Berkshire.
