A "rare" guitar is a relative term. Compared to Strats and Les Paul's... sure it's rare. Heck, even compared to say the Chet Atkins 6120 model from that period, it's clearly more uncommon. But it's not "rare" like only 50 were made, and its not worth 5-figures because of it's "rarity". Everyone I know who's owned or even played a Super Chet, has said good things about it. But collectors aren't clamoring to acquire these the way they do the 50's and 60's Chet Atkins signature models, so it's "rarity" doesn't translate into value the way some other models might.
Having said all that, and without seeing photos of the guitar to confirm condition and originality, this model has sold at auction in the $2500-3500 range. Dealers may be asking more... but that's a retail price (usually including their commission).
How'd you lose the volume knob?
