When you turn it up all the way, sure, but it does have many other sounds in it, is touch sensative, and works well with your volume knob. Low gain drive is available, just not what it's mainly "marketed" for.

Not looking for a high gain British type, already trying to sell my MXR 78 Custom Badass Distortion. Looking for something more like dirty little secret or formula no 5 from catalinbread, paisley drive or black 65 from wampler. Or a tube screamer.

Ok, never mind. My wife convinced me to keep the FuzzRay because it is "neat" as she put it. Ha ha. It really does sound pretty cool and my 16 year old self would have played it until it broke.

O.F.M. just sent you an email about the later built Fuzzrays having sockets for the trannies. I have HIGH gain trannies in there. a BC109 is for one loud ass fuzz machine.
try some lower gain NPN transistors for almost boring Fuzz Face style fuzz (which can sound great with single coils)
