Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and to Gretsch guitars. I have an Eddie Cochran model 6120 with a swivel arm. I want to change that to a fixed arm. Do I just buy the flat fixed arm and it attaches someway or do I need extra hardware or what??? I have scoured the net looking for info, but it's all about the wrong stuff. Also, I want to install a 1" spring, how do I do that or is there a tutorial out there somewhere? One more, will the height of the fixed arm cause any problems when I close the case, it's a standard black Gretsch guitar case. Thanks in advance and nice to meet y'all!

You can probably find what you're looking for at this site. http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/trem_bigsby.htm

Changing the spring is easy - just loosen the strings and lift the bigsby handle enough to remove the old spring. Just pop the new one into place. The spring is held in place by string tension.

Welcome to the forum. What part of N.C. are you from? I live in Davidson.

About the height of the handle fitting into the case - just rotate the handle to the back of the guitar (pointing to the strap button at the butt of the guitar) and it will fit in the case with no problem.

I don't know about the fixed handle that you are considering, though...

i just fitted a one inch spring
there is nothing that attaches the bigsby to the spring, all that keeps the bigsby down is the tension of the strings
so if you remove the strings you can lift the handle up and turn it all the way back
and just take the spring out and put the other in

Davidson is a few miles north of Charlotte (home of the college of the same name). There are lots members here from your area.

I know this is an older thread but, I just put a fixed arm and a 1 " spring. The arm have be be filed a bit to fit on but if you flip the arm all the way back there's a little screw. Undo that and the arm slides off. Just slide the new one on, place the new spring, that's all she wrote. Very simple. Hope this helps you! Good luck
