Hello.

Just got my first Gretsch today, a G5129 (red), from my buddy's guitar shop. It was used but in pretty good shape. A few nicks and play wear.

I've always loved the look of a Gretsch but they never fit my playing style. I'm a metal head but have a soft spot for surf/hot rod/rockabilly. I reached burn out playing metal and decided to learn a new genre!

I'm loving the sound and playability. She needs a good set up. Lots of vibrations.

I plan on learning Surf Rider, 13 and Black Hell (Danzig), Miserlu etc...
Anyway, I'm glad to be a part of the forum.

Any tips, tricks or advice is always welcome.

Hi shupe13, welcome to the forum! The 5129 is a great guitar with those DeArmond 2000 pickups. Please post pics.

I had that same guitar. Advice on playing you ask? You already did it by cutting back on the metal. Just kidding. If you can get your fingers to play those metal runs, without the aid of distortion, delays, and all the other tricks of the metal trade, then you can wail on the 5129.
