Speedstick March 18th, 2012, 02:34 AM Hi there!
I'm originally from the Philippines and just working here in Saudi Arabia. Recently, I acquired a '79 Gretsch BST-1000 (MDL. 8210 # 6-9028) as my first electric guitar and i would say it's in pretty good condition for a 30+ y/o guitar. Cheers!
The Marlin March 18th, 2012, 02:42 AM Welcome :)
I've never heard on of those in the flesh. What do they sound like?

Thanks Marlin!
Since it's my first electric guitar, I really don't know how to describe it and doesn't have any reference to compare it from. Jon Foreman of Switchfoot and Kim Shattuck of The Muffs uses one of this.

S. Rock March 18th, 2012, 03:39 AM welcome to gretsch-talk. your guitar is in very good shape compared to ones that I've actually seen. sorry, I can't answer your question about the pickups, though.

Thanks s. Rock! yeah you're right, besides some few small nicks on the body, the neck and frets was in good condition like it has not been used much... I will just wait for someone to come to answer my pickup question.

Dylanphile March 18th, 2012, 08:29 PM Welcome to the forum, man. Your guitar is cool; not many of them pop up anymore. Gretsch's identity crisis in that era led to some really interesting instruments.

yeah, they're humbuckers but i want to know who made it. i have read that they're generic japanese humbuckers.
It's my first electric guitar so honestly I dont know how it performs compared to other guitar. :D

An interesting side note: My younger sister and I babysat the Foreman boys when their dad, Mark, was our pastor in Twin Peaks, CA. In fact their mom's friend got me a place to stay my freshman year in college (UCI).
Switchfoot is hands down one of my kids' favorite bands. I like a lot of their stuff too, like "Burnout bright" and "Home".

They're one of the reason I decided to get the guitar and another one is this band:
