Actually put these in this last weekend. Put them in the blond Squier M-80 NGD thread here (http://www.gretsch-talk.com/forum/other-cool-guitars/64856-ngd-squier-master-series-m-80-a.html). Not done with her. Will likely switch out the bridge and stop as well to match the pups.

These are good pups. I still think I might do TV Jones at some point. Was looking for a bit of a Ric tone. You can definately hear the jangle a bit. Fairly articulate and clear with a bit of fatness. They actually sound very close to the stock Blacktop Filtertrons in my Gretsch, only not quite as clear, with not quite as good seperation, but close.

The recordings were VERY rushed. Also, I still have some adjustment to do on pup and pole height. Overall, I'd give these a 3.8-4 out of 5.

I haven't been playing guitar long (can still be counted in months). Other instruments yes. But guitar, not long. So, excuse my cruddy playing. I;m trying thougg :)

After doing the above, I noticed the Egnater seemed to kick the deLisle's behind in the clarity dept. I got it with Electro Harmonix tubes across the board. For the 6973s, it's those or NOS. But, I find EH 12A*7s a little muddy. Egnater had Sovteks when I got it. Put Tung Sols, which I think are some of the best all-around, bang for the buck 12A*7s around. So put them in preamp1 (12AX7) and the PI (12AT7). Left the EH EF86 for now in preamp2. Made a BIG difference. Now the deLisle wins the clarity war. I also did each setting on the amp in full pentode on the EF86 and in triode mode.

GOOD STUFF CYBERMGK...LISTENED TO YOUR BYTES...l agree the De Lisle sounds better the second time around...personaily my ears favour the Egnater in clarity and warmth...the De lisle has a beaut voice too...great playing for a couple of months...yep the Tung sol would make a difference[bias matched]...did the same to my Egnater Renegade 18/65 Head...it's matched to a Egnater Tourmaster 2x12...sings sweet..you have some beaut amps..congrats

Yes, the Eganater is a great amp. It really holds it own with a lot of great amps (ergo their catch phrase Boutique sound at Basement prices). Sounds atleast good with every git and pickup I have, great with some. Great low-volume tones (which all of these were done at). deLisle can get raunchier/dirtier, and really sings with the Gretsches (LOVES the Mega'Trons in my Vette, as if they were made for each other). Also, so far, seems to get better tone at higher volumes than the Egnater. I also noticed I had the Contour set pretty far to the treble (scoops the mids more treble or more bass) on the deLisle, after the fact. Definately different tones on the amps. The two have relagated my VCXD to the closet.

Thanks on "great playing for a couple of months". It's not a couple, calender wise (more like 3/4+ of a year, but still counted in months). But, being a single Father, work, lol it's probably more like a few effective months. Past experience on keyboards and brass, both helps and hinders at times.

But, I'm starting to really like these pups, atleast in this guitar. They work well with the Basswood, which I had hoped. Not sure if it's a Ric tone, as they are advertised, but it has some Ric tendancies. Certainly gives a slightly different tone than what I had in others.
