Which TV Jones would you put in a LP?

DrMilkTruck selling some TV classics got me thinking about putting TV's in my Les Paul.

Searching for TV's in Les Pauls has not turned up a whole lot. I saw a video where the dude had Powertrons and one with Classics in a LP copy.

I know the correct answer is sell the LP and get a Jet but I don't really want to let it go.

Hopefully you guys have some opinions. I also have a gold Bigsby I'm going to put on there. Maybe even get some gold sparkle plastic on there too.

Thankya,
Levi

I've installed them for LP customers, this one got tvjones magnatrons. I would suggest
classics.

I was hoping you'd show Tavo. Thanks! Classics are what Drmilktruck has. Guess it can't hurt to try!

I've listened to countless demos of Classics but what do you think the solid body will sound like. You're always able to type how things sound.

I can't believe my eye's. Now I've seen it all. The world better come up with something big to top this one or I may never be astonished again. I'm now so curious to hear what that would sound like.:)

It'll sound great. It needs a Bigsby. TV Jones makes the correct mounts to install FT pickups into a HB route. Go for it. Les Paul's are made of great tone woods and it will sound awesome, probably a little tighter in the bottom end (I can't believe I said that) than a Gretsch.

The thing is with particular LP is that it already sounded incredible with the
seymour d. antiquities which are a very airy and twangy PAF in my opinion, although it could be that this light one piece mahogany body and carve top
played into that. I am not a fan of LPs but this one had me not wanting to
give it back.. that is until the customer demanded pickups were installed.

Turned the guitar into a bull tele on horse steroids and trying to tame the high end was like dodging fast balls at a batting cage on roller skates.

:)

okay it wasnt that bad but I was full of disdain for the end results on such a beautiful guitar. Just doing what the customer ordered... Had he gone with classics I think it would have made him love the instrument more instead of selling it for a dang strat. He was sure these magnatrons were going to give him a vintage DeArmond sound, and I told him that wasnt possible with this particular pickup design... (because T-armonds sound like real DeArmonds, but better)

I keep seeing references to PAF pickups. I never have figured out what that is. What's PAF?

Sorry to display my ignorance, but hey, if the shoe fits...

PAF = Patent applied for.
The first few years of Les Paul humbuckers are referred to as such,
the Humbuckers on Gibson started in 1957.
while i love TV Jones pick ups, i would suggest a set of Seymour Duncan pearly gates or '59 pickups with .022 orange drop caps.

Back in the early '70s, Jan Akkerman of Focus fitted a Gretsch Filtertron to his Les Paul. Sounded good. The 'vocal' is rather an acquired taste.

LOVE Focus! Great band, and that's one of my favorite performances. If I ever got another Les Paul, that's how I'd do it. He probably just had some shims put in under the pickup to get it to the right height. That gold Gretsch pickup ring looks sharp against the black Les Paul.

Great band! My vote is TV Jones Classics in a Les Paul.

holy hell I cannot stop rolling with laughter, what is that idiotic hippie falsetto?? Great gut laughs woooo, loving it!!
man that caught me off guard and I have tears in my eyes... but YES THAT is a great example of
a filtertron in an LP save for the horrible amp tone.. I love this video and am currently
sharing it on facebook. What a weird ass but intriguing prog band (i dig organ in my stoner music) :)

Well, Classics it is. Thanks Drmilktruck, and thank you guys for the replies.

So next time I get to travel home there will be pics of a white LP with TV Classics and a Bigsby or a large pile of ashes.

A Les Paul with a Bigsby just oozes mojo. Add some TV classics and it becomes a beast. Should be a great guitar.

Yup the amp kinda sucked, but the Filter brought out a nice twang! I remember when this song came out and we went hysterical with laughter also but it was sooooo cool!!! Loved it and still do!

Interesting to note Mr. Akkerman fitted the Filtertrons (from his White Falcon) in his LP to mimic the cutting sound of the Tele... The majority of people familiar with Akkerman/Focus identify him most with the Black Beauty LP. But the first Focus album apparently was cut with a Tele(and NO, I'm not confusing Focus with Led Zeppelin!). On top of that he also has a weird predilection for SS amps. Something to do with clarity, note definition and faster attack response, alltho I'm mostly assuming here...

The vocals...uhm ah yes, TV Classics.

You never heard that before?
it's good for a laugh, but i think the guitars and organ got some cool riff happening.

That is the band that does the song that 'Saxondale' uses as an intro. I wish we could have a few more seasons of that.

Ahh, but this is what you must do... actually, I couldn't care less if you sell the LP or not (you will eventually, once you've got jet you never go back).. but you NEED A JET!:D

I WAS an LP first guy (still have 2, 3 if you count the Schecter Tempest, which is an LP for all intent and purpose just a different shape). But, I'll tell you, Getting a lot of the same mileage as the LPs with my Jet AND going down some roads the LPs can't follow

Cyber, you are so right on. I have 2 LPs, a Gold Top w/P90's and a LP standard and while they both sound great, I don't play them much. The Jets have a more unique sound and don't give you spinal curvature. There is a distinctiveness about the Jets.

There was a Framus Jan Akkerman guitar at one time, it looked a lot like a Les Paul but I don't think that it had Filtertrons.

I would use Powertrons. I don't associate Les Paul's with sparky cleans, more solid overdrive, so Powertrons all the way.

You mean to say that a musician of your caliber doesn't appreciate such a work of modern classical music sung by the greatest vocalist since Tiny Tim? Me neither!

As a culture we were pretty full of ourselves back in the '70s. Well, we were full of something . . . :)
