Before I go and spend my hard earned on the Guitar pro software, has anyone used it and do you recommend it? Just about all the decent choons on 911 Tabs etc. all seem to be in this format.

Also, anyone know of any other tab websites beside 911 Tabs?

Cheers

Guitar Pro is well worth it. The tabs made for it tend to be more accurate, it's easy to use to create your own.

I use the iphone guitar pro ap. It works quite well & much cheaper than the pc software.
I quite like songster+ as an alternative.

I found the app for iPhone too and installed it. I was wondering if I should get the full blown offering as it is easier to see my laptop screen than my iPhone.

But there again, I am a tight Yorkshireman ;)

I use the free TuxGuitar program which can open GuitarPro files. It is not as fully featured but is certainly useable.

+1 on Tux. It's good free software that can open GP files also.

I use Guitar Pro, and find it's great for learning songs. You can download a demo version http://www.guitar-pro.com/en/index.php?pg=download

Yes, I can recommend Guitar Pro. There are a lot of accurate tabs for free and a lot of good features - for example, I like Guitar Pro's RSE sounds. I don't like unrealistic MIDI sounds, even when I'm learning a song or writing my own.

After learning a new song with Guitar Pro, I usually try to find free backing track (mp3 file) from http://www.guitarbackingtrack.com/. I drag mp3 file to Garageband and play along. To me this is a good practising method.

Well, I bought the iPhone app and after some playing about, I finally figured out how to download files to the phone! OK, I know it's easy but I have a new laptop and I hadn't set up iTunes properly. So, after 30 years of playing rock / metal, I'm now going back to my first love - Rockabilly - and trying to learn some Stray Cats stuff :D Rock on, Daddio...

Good call! Thanks for the heads up. Downloaded yesterday, not as glossy as GP perhaps but certainly a stable & useable open source program that will open GP files. Thanks :)

Good call indeed on TuxGuitar. I've just had a quick look and when I get home (I'm at work right now), I'll be installing it on my laptop.

Where do you guys get your Guitar pro tabs from.

I have the iphone app, but haven't used it yet. I'll probably wait fior the new iPad to come out, and use it with that. More screen to play with

Marlin: Agreed the iphone screen is a bit tiny for GP but it is useable with my industrial strength glasses on. Tranferring tabs onto the iphone from GP is a bit of a fag (fag in UK parlance that is ;) ) because you have to have your pc running at the same time, Songster+ allows you to save tabs directly on the iphone.
Mostly I get tabs on 911 tabs, which is a sort of tab search engine.

I use GP and power tab. I think they are both pretty good. I know you can get power tab for free and I've found them to be more accurate . I happened to buy a disc of GP tabs for SRV and it came with the program all for $.99 . I do like GP better even though I find power tab more accurate .

I like guitar pro. I recently have found musicnotes.com and their product, guitar guru. That's good for playback and visuals, but guitarpro adds a very robust writing component and instrument voicings.
