question about phase in changing PUs position

Hello:

I recently mounted my neck PU reversed by mistake in my Duo Jet with Dynasonics (not the wires but the position of the pole pieces same as bridge PU) and I wonder if this change will reverse the phase in the middle position of the PU's selector switch or not.

I ask this cause for my ears it was more bass when using both PUs with the neck PU reversed than when I after corrected it to its normal position.

thanks.

The 'wrong' pickup orientation will change the spectral balance of the mixed signal, but not nearly as much as electrical phase reversal would.

Out-of-phase pickups usually result in a very thin sound, because the lower frequencies cancel out more completely than the high frequencies.

Thanks, I adjusted the pole pieces to compensate the volume between the strings and it was ok. Now I tried to reverse both PUs to try if I can fix the problem that bridge PUs it too sharp and neck PU too bassy. I will play a litte bit more and let you know my impressions.

thanks again and happy xmas to all.

Hey ManMartin, I did the same thing when I modified a Pro Jet with DeArmonds.
I had to replace a short wire on the bridge pickup and I reversed the polarities.
As the result, B+N sound came out not dramaticaly thin, but kind of 'quacky'. I decided to keep it like that:D

Hi

As they post before (and I suppose it make sens), turning the PUs upside down will not out of phase them, so when you swapped the cables you reversed the polarity and then in the middle position you get this thin sound. Here is a sample from tv jones site where he shows the difference between phased and out of phase pus.

I want to enhance the sound of my guitar to make transitions between the pus selections more coherent, not so drastic changes... but it seems pus are what they are and that's all.

cheers.

Yes, I unintentionaly reversed the ground and live, I wasn't thinking that the soldering pins on DeArmonds 2000 were reversed. So, reversed it stayed:)
Sounds good to me:D
