It possible to get a silent switch with true bypass or is that an impossible feat?
I am in contact with this guy who does things like this for effects pedals and I'm getting a "second" opinion.

My dad has this Diamond Delay pedal with a tap tempo switch that is totally silent but there are certain problems with the electronics and things that are just WAY out of my span of cognition.

Thanks all

I use a 100uf collector cap and 1 meg resistor to ground to reduce the "pop" of true hardwire bypass but its far from silent. You'd have to devise a relay (pain in the arse) to get it silent... although I cant imagine a delay having the loud pop that a gain device usual emits

Why is a relay quieter than a switch? Because it switches quicker? Because it is less likely to wear?

A switch driving a relay seems to be a pretty simple circuit. Does it introduce noise? Should it have its own filtering?

its switching is slightly delayed through filtering. A definite necessary evil for power amps as you could blow the tweeters by accidental power failure (and idiot sound men that dont clear the desk)

Less "clickey" footswitches would be danelectro, Behringer or any pedal under $75.00. More "clickey" footswitches right now are Wampler, Xotic, TIM, Fulltone, Nocturne etc.:D I like the clickey footswitches myself.

Jack Deville makes a pretty cool product. I am currently putting one in my EHX POG because the freakin switch is so loud (mechanically) and it annoys me. I might make a 5 channel true bypass looper with these switches in the future too.

Another option is to bypass the pedal with a less-clicky switch. I use two GigRig (http://www.thegigrig.com/) Loopy 2 (http://www.thegigrig.com/acatalog/SWS_Loopy-2.html) pedals, and heartily recommend them - not cheap, but then what really good kit is?
