After reading all the stellar reviews, and a recomendation from a fellow G-T member, I pulled the trigger yesterday on a new Fender Champion 600 amp!

Just happened to find myself (too close) to a GC store :D
Grabbed a Tele off the wall, and sat down with the 600 for about a half hour. I attemped to do a side-by-side comparison with the Vibro-Champ, but the only Vibro they had in the store was D.O.A. so that was out. No matter, I fell in love with the 600, and i doubt the Vibro can touch it's pure tube tone anyway.

I quickly noticed the price on these amps had recently dropped from $169 to $149, so that was cool. But when the salesman produced a $20 off coupon on top of that, that amp was mine right then and there.

I am just blown away by this little gem! Great classic pure tube tone, with plenty of clean headroom. I plan to leave it as is for now with no mods. (except for changing the thick grill cloth). Sounds great with my Telecaster AND Gretsch.

It has that perfect Fender tone. I'm very pleased with my purchase!

I have one, they are fun little amps. Need to swap my grill cloth too. What is the best way to go about doing it?

This will be a first for me LRR, a learning experience

When I get the Grill cloth, I'll probably just take off the front, remove the old cloth, and staple in the new. I have a staple gun ready to go :D

Thats it Chaz. Exactly how i did mine. I chose Fender burgandy coloured grill cloth , painted the speaker housing a similar colour & away we went! Easy.

Forgot to mention flat black spray on the baffle board Chaz. You'll need a can of that too. When you get the cloth, work on the top side first. Pick one of the yellowish horizontal threads and line it up straight across the top edge of the baffle board, this will keep you straight. Straight is CRITICAL, because it'll look really bad wavy and loose. Do all the staples on top first. Next the bottom. Start on either bottom corner. Pull gently but firmly down taking out the slack, hold in place and staple, repeating, one staple at a time all the way across the bottom. Then on either side you choose, make sure it looks straight and staple that side all the way. Tensioning will come on the other side. Simply pull the slack out like you did on the top to bottom one and staple, keeping tension as you go. Trim off excess with a razor blade. That's it.

Here's mine again:

Nice Job Geezer....That looks great! Thanks for the tips. I'm certain they will save me a lot of time with trial and error. Looking forward to the change out :)

Congrats on the Champ 600 -- great vintage vibe on these little guys. I circled them for quite some time when they first showed up, but I waited and waited. I didn't really NEED another amp, you see! Then one day we walked into a GC, and they had one 600...on sale for $80. Needless to say, we jumped at it. They're fun little guys to have.

Well folks, I finally had time to finish the new grill cloth. Not only does it look better, it now sounds AWESOME! What a difference in volume and tone. It's a different amp now. I highly suggest this Mod. to anyone that owns this amp. (Pics to come soon).

Thanks again to GT member Geezer, for the great idea, and all the help.

I've been thinking about getting one of those to fill the gap left when I traded in my modded EVJ...maybe a layaway.
