sorry for my english (i'm.. french)

i've changed the original pickups (filtertron) for a pair of Dearmond Dynasonics
on my duojet G6128 (japanese bought in 2006)

now, i want to replace the (3) pots volumes, but many questiosn, i'll buy probably 250k (instead of 500k ) but what kind... audio ? log ? linear ?

and what size ?? i'm afraid there is some trouble with fit knobs

can you help me ?

The stock pots are 500k linear on all proline Gretsches, the Duo Jets have FULL SIZED pots with split shafts. :)

My 2007 Knotty Pine Roundup has full size pots, not mini-pots. Did you mean Pro Jets instead of Duo Jets?

Woops, really? oh, bugger, I think I just figured out why - the one Jet I've done electronics work to was pre-FMIC, and I'm not even sure it was all-original now I think about it.. I just pulled mine out of their cases and you're right, they're full ones.. my bad :o

pre-FMIC? --- yup, mini pots would be the order of the day on those.

thxs for your reply, i've tried to put my gretsch knobs to my telecaster baja, the fit is same.. ! so i've just ordered 3 FENDER CTS 250k solid shaft potentiometer (for Telecaster), so wait and see if it's good or not

Another question : I'll probably replace the capacitor too.. but what value could i use ??

It really depends how treble-y you want it to sound, and your own personal preferences on tone - the best thing you can do is solder a couple of wires to the pot where the cap will go, put crocodile clips on the other ends of the cables, buy a BUNCH of different caps, and try them out to see which value/flavour works well for you...

Failing that, tell us the sort of tones you're going for & we'll try to get you in the right ballpark :)

may i put new capacitors instead the 2 capacitors (123k + 392k) on the Master tone switch ?? or is there another "place" ??

That's the only tone control in the Filtertron equipped Jet, so yes, those are the ones you want to swap :)

Sorry about the pot talk in the last post, all the Dynasonic talk had me thinking of a Dyna Jet, which uses a tone pot instead of a switch. Replace "pot" with "switch" and the post is still valid ;)

What wiring diagram? are you asking for a wiring diagram for a stock FilterJet? if so, click here (http://wpc.077d.edgecastcdn.net/00077D/gretsch/support/schematics/wiring/Tone-Switch-Circuit.pdf)

As for the cap, an 0.022 may work there, depending on if you were looking for more or less treble. This will provide more treble than the heavier switch cap side [0.012], but less than the lighter switch cap side [0.039] (if that makes sense). It would be the equivalent of rolling your tone knob right down on one of the tone-knob equipped Jets (as they use 0.022s, too, according to the schematics on the Gretsch site)

yes it would be nice if i could have more treble cut (for example low when the switch is in left position and high treble when it's on the right position)

OK, well in that case leave the 0.012 where it is unless you want even more treble cut (that would be insanity!), and put something like a 0.047 (or maybe even a little higher?) in place of the 0.039, that could work nicely.

It really comes down to your ears, it's hard to pick cap values for someone else. I still suggest you buy a bunch of different value caps & some wires with aligator clips, and you experiment until you find two you like...

I've never tried the Torres mod you linked to, but I've heard of it before and people seem to like it, it might be worth trying it if you like the idea of it :)

You can use any capacitors you like, from cheapies to Orange Drops & Mallorys to PIO caps, it all depends how much you want to spend & what you think is best.. I've always liked (and used) Orange Drops unless my clients specify otherwise, and I've never had any complaints.. I also use them in my own personal guitars when modding them. :)
